Was also without signal yesterday in Somerset West area until shortly before 4pm. I expect them to apologise, and to inform me by how much they will compensate me for the loss of service.... then again, I expect the rain not to wet me when I find myself without an umbrella..

I did actually bother to complain.
This was the response (which came within an hour: impressive!) -
'we are sorry to hear of the circumstances under which your e-mail has reached us. On the 24/07/2011 we had a problem on the network that occured at 14:00 and was resolved at 18:00. We would like to express our sincere apologies for all the inconvenience caused.'
And my reply to that was:
'Thank you for the prompt explanation, however under the circumstances (namely that this is the second network outage in a month) an apology is not sufficient. Please detail how I will be compensated for the loss of service - a little good will goes a long way in such situations. It also does not explain how my wife and son (who are also both Vodacom subscribers) experienced no issues.'

Network problems

Both network problems were caused by network failure of the"self-provioned" networks. Telkom was offering Vodacom a better quality of service after all !!

Even though I'm loving Cell C, that wasn'y my intention. Voda constantly promotes itself for QoS, coverage, stability and the fact that they're far from capacity regarding their network - and often comments are made that they're superior to competitors due to this, especially Cell C. The reality is that besides their coverage, they're proving to be the most inferior, complacent and expensive. This thread was ideal for the comparison if one has the ability to see it...

+1

I have been having extremely bad signal from Vodacom for the last 3 weeks. Network coverage is carp compared to Cell-C, Virgin and (believe it or not) 8-ta. Have a sim card from each provider and Vodacom has pretty lousy coverage at home and at work whereas the others have very good coverage and browsing speeds. Cant wait for my contract to end next year so I can leave this lousy network...

They should just admit it. They did not invest in their huge subscriber base network. They made a net profit of R8billion (or something like that) yet their revenue grew by only R2billion. This says cost cutting.

And the top guys are laughing all the way to the bank.

You reap what you sow.

Last night I get home to discover my Vodacom wasn't working.
Not to be outdone, Eskom also decided to give me a power failure.

Just another day in Africa :(
