Vodacom zero-rates data for educational sites

Fantastic , with the growth of moocs and this the future of education in South Africa and the world for that matter looks bright. I love online training ! There are tons of free sites around as well as youtube. My fav site at the moment is Udemy. Not zero rated :) but a great place for excellent free training.

I went to a few of those sites on that list, amazing contents (although I didn't open up the videos) I hope that Vodacom makes the use of these "free data" simple and without incident so that some poor kids parents won't have to pay through their teeth for something they thought was free of charge.

I WANT FREE WIKIPEDIA!!!!! :mad::mad::mad:
Boggles the mind why they did not 0-rate that as well. Do it via Opera Mini if they are worried about data usage, with a suggestion popup when it is accessed via a regular mobile browser.

Too much traffic going to Wikipedia - they stand to lose millions if they 0-rate it. As for the other 5 sites, they are all **** sites in any event.

Have you seen the contents they are providing? Like I said in my previous post although I haven't gone through with it with a fine tooth comb but it seems like it's very good.

I can vouch for the everythingmaths site. Very good, I used it to help my grade 10 boy with maths. Much better than the textbook. So schools should just download that book and give every child a copy.

I don't think these guys have visited the websites. This is an excellent initiative, I have no idea why they choose to complain for the sake of complaining. The Everything Maths and Science websites have about 500 000 unique monthly visitors. That is a third of the number of students in Grade 10 to 12 in the country. As much as you guys feel like Wikipedia would be a better resource, it actually isn't. A South African high school learner cannot teach themselves Trigonometry from Wikipedia. International resources will not be curriculum-aligned.

The company behind Everything Maths and Science is Siyavula Education. Check out their Grade 4 - 6 Natural Science and Technology project at www.thunderboltkids.co.za. That is a cool site if ever I saw one. Stop with the pessimism. We actually have some really cool things happening in our backyard.
