Hope I'm not stating the obvious, but you used a ICMP test that sends a low priority ICMP packet of about 64 bytes to the x10hosting server in the US.

The average time it took for the packet to get there, from your PC, and to trigger a response on the server, that then arrived back at your PC was about 0.6 seconds. This is called the round-trip latency.

Of the ICMP packets you sent, 17% were discarded along the ways, pretty much anywhere between your PC and the server in US.

Most networks and servers give ICMP the lowest possible priority, so these packets can get discarded quite quickly if their is load anywhere along the way.

Hope this help.

Thanks for the reply. I just pinged the first available url.

I understand that ping packets are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to routing but funny enough that when ping packets start biting the dust so do Guild Wars game packets.

When Guild wars works perfectly, so do pings. When Guild wars is unplayable ping packets also become scarce. I realise this is not a 100% fool proof test but it works for me.

Vodacom3g, I noticed that a lot of websites time out and refreshing the page a few times and it starts working again. I looked on the forums and a lot of people are complaining about slow throughput and connection interruptions.

Can you please tell me if Vodacom is aware of any problems with prepaid data bundles?

Yup, have a look in the 'problems' thread. I've posted about it there.
