guyz why is vodacom replacing its towers with new towers,i've observed this development from mpumalanga to limpopo,

Maybe cause they don't work ;)

I've used VC data for 3 or 4 years now and have watched it deteriorate ... till this week I had nothing (BIS was also playing up for 3 or 4 days). I changed yesterday to Telkom 3G and my stepfather is going MTN next week due to this last week. Admitedly, it does seem to be going alright now.

Are they replacing the monopole steel masts? What is the replacement, a lattice mast or another monopole steel mast?

the monopole masts are being replaced by lattice masts, but ystday i saw a lattice mast standing exacty on the same site as the other lattice mast

Remember that they have to have EIA's for each site, so it is not so easy to change the height of the masts or, in some cases, the type of mast as it must conform to the EIA.

A possible reason could be that they need to place additional equipment on the mast and the existing mast cannot handle the load (in terms of weight). This could be due to site sharing agreements with the other telcos (MTN, CellC, Telkom, Neotel) and them wanting to install links at those sites.

Hi , if there are any replacing of towers happening , i would imagine it would be to upgrade the network , also i do know that we are changing the software to Huawei on all the BTS's.

Regards

You'll only replace the software to Huawei if it is a Huawei BTS - meaning that you're probably switching over to Huawei for your RAN.

As for the masts, I don't know of anyone who likes the monopoles - they're not sturdy enough to carry much of a load, and climbing them is a pain. A lattice is safer and supports much more wind loading.
