Hi,

1st:Wanted to buy, via the internet, an iPhone from Vodacom. Asked in an e-mail how long delivery would take. 1st Reply ...we don't know. My reply "it looks that i have to go elswhere" , Vodacom's reply "a sales consultant will contact you" ...this was three days ago.

2nd: Ported my nummer from MTN to Vodacom, same day I was disconnected from MTN and my phone shows the Vodacom Logo. After 3 days still unable to call or to be called.
Regret my porting.

Hi rich68

1)
The iPhone 4 has been in short stock from a lot of the retailers and networks recently if I remember correctly. You would have seen many threads of this exact nature on this forum. Vodacom's turnaround-time in response to online stock queries normally takes a while. Rather call or go into a store (or PM ocleroux on this forum)

2)
Even though you may have been RICA'd on MTN, I think you have to RICA on Vodacom again after porting your number.

Some more information is required.

1. Who were you dealing with?
2. Did you apply for a new contract or is this prepaid?
3. Did you get your new Vodacom sim (required for porting from MTN or any other network)
4. What is the cell number... (This must please be PM'ed to me...and NOT posted here)

PS: The Iphone is hard to get. Supplier unable to give us dates on our shipments. Were you not informed about his when you you applied to have your number ported?

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies.
1.I tried to buy the iPhone via Vodacoms Internet shop. They did only say "we don't know how long it will take to deliver, nothing else" a salesman will contact you ...and for him to contact me I'm still waiting.
2.For the porting of my MTN number I went to Vodacomshop in the Mountain shopping mall in Worcester.
Did buy a new Vodacom SIM card and the man behind the desk promised me to register as he could not access the computer program. He took a copy of my ID and all other related information.
My intention was first to port my MTN number to Vodacom, buy airtime and than order the iPhone via the internet on a 2yr contract.

Regards. Rich
PS My nearest Vodacom shop is a 1 hour drive away.

Hello rich. I checked on the system and the number you provided me with was ported into Vodacom on the 19th of this month. Please provide me with the sim number that you are using. What I also want you to try and do is the following.

Go into your phones "network settings". Change the "Network selection mode" to manual. Wait for the phone to search for available networks. Once you have the list displayed...select MTN, then it should give you a error. Then you select Vodacom again and let it register. Take the battery out and then put it back in and reboot the phone.

Awaiting your feedback.

Helllllloooooooooooooooo? I have started drinking so rather not ask me to help now. I might just press the wrong button and port you back to MTN! lolz

I will wait to hear from you then.

I dont work weekends...SPECIALLY ones that falls within a public holiday. Nor am I assigned by Vodacom to be here. I am here out of my own free will.

Did send you by PM the sim number.
Just tried to put some Vodacom airtime on my new Vodacom simcard, via internet banking, no success, get a message "please enter valid cellphone number"
Have a nice Easter Weekend.
Rgds Rich

Hello Rich. I have seen what the problem is. You need to dial "100" to activate the sim and release the ported number.

Once that is done the number will go live on the network. On the system I see the status is still set as "Available", and not "Active", which means you have not dialed 100 yet. The store should have explained this to you. *sigh*

LoL,

if he was paid by VC to be here then yes.

He's not paid by them & this is his off time.

If you wish to deal with a VC rep contact vodacomdata...

Hello OC,

Nearly embarrassing simple ...it works, many thanks, when you are in the neigbourhood give me a PM and we get a "drunk" at my place, for free ;-)

You are welcome...and the sales consultant should be embarrassed for not explaining it to you when he issued the sim card to you.

Anyways...just glad we figured it out. Funny how it is sometimes the most obvious things that really makes you scratch your head...cause they are so freakking obvious you dont even consider it. haha.

Thank you for the invite. :-)
