Vodacom's WASP-blocking option that doesn't exist

Vodacom features a double-opt-in process for WASP services on its network, and customers can unsubscribe to all content services by sending an SMS with the words “Stop All” to 31050.

However, contrary to its previous statements regarding the blocking of WASPs by default, we were told Vodacom*does not offer subscribers an option to block all WASP subscriptions.

Near the end of 2017, Vodacom told MyBroadband*it offered customers the ability to automatically block all WASP subscriptions on their SIM.

The operator said subscribers must complete a form requesting that WASP services be blocked on their SIM, preventing a WASP from billing them on that number.

Following our recent WASP-blocking tests, we visited a Vodacom store to fill out the form to block WASP services automatically.

I wonder if MyBB can reveal the VC person who lied to them that other time, or at least ask that person for clarity...

EDIT:
I see the article was updated and that VC has responded

MyBB: How do I stop WASPS?

vodacom: *Trump voice* Just go to one of our stores and ask for the super-duper-for-real-real-WASP-prevention form. It's real, we promise. It's-great-you're-wonderful...tremendous.

MyBB: Hold on, there is no form...?

We fell short of our standards

they will say they how did they put it the last time

We fell short of our standards

Only standard they have is " We did not shaft out customers no where near hard enough. We must try harder and with less lube next time round,"

"Vodacom told MyBroadband it has stopped the process where customers are required to complete a form to block WASPs."

Why does that have a positive spin on it as if customers no longer need to do something?
Next we're going to hear that they still actively sell their SMS service to clients for applications like OTP.

You were close (article was updated)

Lol Ya
Seems like Vodacom only does things after MYBB investigates
It added that MyBroadband should have been given the option to block WASPs when we called its customer care line, and the network apologised for the option not being presented.
“We have reiterated the cancellation process to agents at call centres and Vodacom shops,” it said.

^^apparently they don't have anyone keeping an eye on the news about them in this forum.

“Customers can request to block WASP services through call centres/customer care. As part of our digital transformation, we are currently working on additional ways in which customers can complete this request,” said Vodacom.

really embarrassing.....

borderline criminal

General rant on WASPs, not specifically aimed at Vodacom:

There is no reason for WASP-related services to exist in 2018. This is a hangover from a pre-smartphone era.

If you can afford to spend R7.50 per day on crap, you sure as hell can afford a smartphone and get that same content for free from the web. There is just too much room for a morally ambiguous service provider to try to game the system.

Vodacom Partner doesn't have this info....unforgivable.
