Using multiple E220 on same PC

1) Now why would you want to do this, Multiple E220 modem on a PC??
2) Operating system & version are you using?

I have never tried any type of modem more than 1, & concurrently on Windows XP Pro, if that is what you are using?

On Windows Server xxx yes. So I would guess that it is rather a Operating system version than a modem driver issue. You did sy that the modem's work inividually but not concurrently?

I've noticed some drivers allow multiple instances, others don't, this applies to video cards, sound cards as well.

I have seen that Huawei Mobile Partner has 'Choose Device...' in the 'Tools' menu, so it seems to cater for more than one data card being installed simultaneously.

The solution might be as simple as installing the latest version of HMP, the drivers that come with it might allow multiple instances.

I think i should give this a try... it cant be that hard.

Hey Guys,

What happens Exactly When you Reach your Cap, Because I'm not Sure if I'm having Trouble with the Device itself or If I have actually reached cap.

Every Time I connect, I'm on For like 1 minute and then it Disconnects??
Maybe a Firmware Issue?
Maybe I reached Cap?
Maybe A Tower Issue?

Any Ideas?

I have a Vodafone E220 USB Card, And a Vodacom Sim Card,
My Problem Only Started a Week Ago?

If you don't have anymore data/funds available, the modem won't connect at all and you'll get the dreaded '619' error.

If you're connecting and disconnecting, it rather points to another problem. You need to (really carefully) think what could have changed in the last week. Did you do any upgrades on your system, are you in a different location, etc. Are you wearing anything black? Sometimes the most trivial thing can mess with your connection.

Some things you can look at:

1) Check firmware on your E220. Upgrade to the latest version on the vodacom.co.za web site.

2) Try a 3G-Only profile or a 2G-only profile. Use the latest VMC to do this.

3) Check your signal strength. You can use ginggs's cute and sexy (unlike ginggs' himself) app. Try and put the E220 higher up, maybe by using a longer USB cable.

When you do connect, can you actually work? What results do you get on http://speed.vodacom.co.za?

Yeah, It's Funny...

I can work for like a couple of seconds. and then I get the Diconnected Balloon pop up. I've tried removing all traces of VMC from my Laptop and Installing it again, to no Avail.. :(

I thought of maybe waiting it out untill the next month and then fussing about it...

But I just Downloaded the Hawei Update from the links in the previous posts and the Vodacom Updates, Gonna try Both and see if one works, will keep you guys up to date on the progress.

Set your network profile for 3G only or 2G only.
This should definitely solve your problem.

Trying to force 3G in a GPRS Only Area(Or a poor 3G Coverage Area) (and vice verca) wont make any difference other than stop the intermitent disconnections. But then you sit with the problem of not picking up a network at all.

I beg to differ. I had exactly that. Very low signal. I then get disconnects, I force 3G only & I could not have been happier since.

You are correct: 3GOnly is a very important solution and has been discussed almost from day 1 when Vodacom launched 3G.

I dont deny the fact that its very important, and i agree with you both. But i'm just using logic too. And i must be one the unlucky ones, as i get customers with low signal, and my solution of forcing 3G for them hasnt helped much.

[EDIT]: Its proably different in each case.

I had such problems with the E220 USB modem that i was on the verge of burning it and the manual. I think the manual is a waste of paper. I found all the solutions to my problems on this forum. I have now been using the modem for a couple of months with no major problems. Thanks guys!

I think i should create a "How to use your 3G/HSDPA USB Modem for Dummies" and get it approved by vodacom3g...

I reckon so, you helped me so much i'm sure there are other dummies out there, i have IT guys in town asking me for help now cause i got the modem to work. Go figure, perhaps i missed my calling and should be in it? :)

Vodafone

I take it that you guys are in urban areas. I am on the South Coast of KZN. I have been using the Vodafone for about 5 months now. I find it terribly slow, only connecting at 53.6 kpbs. After investigations by Vodacom, it transpires that I am "off the 3G footprint" and am in fact only using 2G. I am putting up with the slow speed as my contract is comparively cheap. I pay R119 a month and got my modem for free (this is through Venturenet who did a deal with Voda). My Telkom account was astronomical when I had dial-up. Voda say they have no plans to spread the footprint to my area within the next year. The sad part is that if I had a laptop I could walk a short distance up the road and be on the 3G footprint!

Sounds like an external antenna could do wonders for you.....

Your old laptop running Windows XP and the new one Windows Vista?

If this the case, download the Firmware version 11.110.05.00.00 from Vodacom's Data Downloads Section and Dashboard version 2.2.2.1. <<--- I see Vodaocm removed version 2.2.2.1 and replaced it with version 3.2.1.156??

Flash it on your XP machine and run on new laptop.

(i'm only assuming your new laptop has Windows Vista becoz you didnt give any useful info, and becoz in the past the E220 was undetecable by Windows Vista)

Hope this helps.
