Vodafone in bid for MTN stake

The talks were confirmed by an MTN insider and by an independent source in the South African financial services sector, who is familiar with the detail of the discussions.
Conflicting stories there - strange that Vodafone would deny something that MTN's CEO is confirming, could it be a strategy to push up the price that others would be prepared to pay?

bad news for Vodacom, an alliance with Vodafone would have been strategic. MTN seems to be making all the right international connections (if this is true).

Vodacom wants Vodafone to take a controlling stake...

Its Telscum and the guavamint that are buggering around as usual again.

Well from all the stories i read, it's clear it's government blocking Vodafone, and not really people "dragging their feet" . I can't see that ever changing while the ANC is involved. They will much sooner get a BEE consortium to buy out Telkom than an overseas company [no matter who they are] . I believe this is pretty standard everywhere in the world when it comes to national assets.
