Well today I signed up a messenger contract and hitched on a 250 Meg GPRS package.
I knew exactly what I wanted but sadly the vodashop sales person was left out in the dark and did not have a clue on how to do what I was asking.
Well after about an hour worth of explaining we got it right.
Yet another person lost to telkom, its time they start looking deep within as I was a R1000+ a month customer just needing a reliable connection that could connect any time of the day or night.
Viva R0.80 a meg !!! R2.00 was killing me

I seriously think v3g must send some of this to the directors of Vodacom. It is really giving them a bad name at the moment and all of us have various complaints regarding Vodashop. To my knowledge it's a franchise but they should have some control.

I should have expected that. Someone's up late tonight or should I say this morning.

3:30

Well its 3:30 in the morning, my new sim has gone live only now, so much for the 2 to 4 hours promised.
Logged on to the vodacom4me web site and checked to find that no my Meg bundle was activated.
Well guess 111 is going to get another call.
Sigh, wish all were as helpful and competent as vodacom3g
well at least once all the teething problems are finished its over, no more telskum for me :D

The 'adding bundle to new weekender/messenger contract upon signing contract'-function is broken btw. I had exactly the same problem and the shop attendant told me i'm not the only one and it's a general problem.

Basically i had to go back after my SIM was activated and -then- get the bundle added [this also takes 12 hours to 'activate']. I added a 150MB bundle initially when i signed, then when it wasn't added i went back and just told them to add a 250MB one then.

Although they told me i can 'reclaim' any R2 p/mb charges made while the bundle wasn't added [and i started using the service], so end of the month i'll check that. Especialy since my contract is proof that i bought a bundle on initialising the service.

PS try this website [assuming you signedat vodacom ]

https://www.vodacomsp.co.za/vspc/products/vodasurf.html

On there you can add/remove bundles yourself [and check if it's actually on too].

up and blasting

well this morning I contacted 111 to see whats up and so far zip !
I was told by the helpdesk that they were not going to put a 250 mymeg on my account, all i was entitled to was 1 meg, 10 meg and 100 meg.
well I flipped. I had my ducks in a row and knew my facts. the helpdest technician phoned me back and told me I was right, their data was outdated and that I would be connected withing 4 to 6 hours.
surprisingly enough by lunch my package was active.
well its a real pleasure to be browsing at 80c rather than R2 a meg.
now to get my linux box running on GPRS.. sigh !

Yea on top of that there's also seemingly uncertainty regarding the " GPRS myMeg" packages and the "3G myMeg" packages. They are identical and cost the same, but different names and seemingly do something different. I have no clue why Vodacom digged that little administrative hole for themselves there. I can only assume GPRS will cost different in the future otherwise it's really rather redundant.

I have asked the same question to the VOdacom via the 111 customer care number and the gentlemen told me that there are similar data bundles, with different names for 3G and GPRS. I have opted for the GPRS MyMeg150, because i'm still using GPRS instead of 3G due to coverage ;-)

When it comes to billing, according to Vodacom, there is no difference, whether you are using 3G or GPRS

my 2 cents worth...

now theres a novel idea, GPRS price drop :)
considering thsat GPRS is much slower...
would be great if we had the coice to switch between 3G and GPRS to save on tarrifs, sometimes all I need is 24/7 connection and sometimes all I need is speeeeeeeeeeeed.
