Voice call issues while roaming on MTN

Hi guys. Yesterday my sis tried to call me and eventually sent me a Telegram to say that my phone is not working. I checked, full MTN signal and data working, but her call was not being connected to me. I could dial out though. This is the second time I am having this kind of issue. A week or so ago my data was working fine, but could not make or receive calls at all.

Have any of you had similar issues while roaming on MTN? I have to roam on MTN 2G at home because there is no signal for Telkom 2G and 3G and also not MTN 3G. MTN 2G have full signal everywhere on the property though.

Last night MTN when down in my area. I also roam on MTN. Been thinking that it's possibly an authentication issue.
Noticed it a few times last week. Never happened before. My phone is manually locked to MTN. IPHONE 5

What phone are you using?

My Galaxy S5 switches seamlessly between MTN and Telkom Mobile.

Voice + data work, because I've set it to use data while roaming.

Huawei P6. When I checked my phone it had full MTN 2G signal and data was working fine and I could phone out, so dont think it is a phone issue, seems like there are hiccups on the MTN network perhaps?

Most probably, as I have never experienced any issues with Telkom Mobile's reception. It's really good.

Not a signal issue as the phone had full 2G MTN signal. I suspect something on the backend that is having issues now and again?

Might be. Now that you mention it, I remember once where I was roaming on MTN, and the call went straight to voicemail.

Maybe authentication not working when switching from the one to the other?

Your phone hangs on CS (voice) services, still connected on PS services (3G).
I had the exactly the same problem on iPhone two days ago. On the top was "No service" next to active 3G connectionm icon. It was stuck for couple of hours, after restarting phone came back to normal. It was Cell C, but it happened before with TM.

I force the phone onto MTN 2G, not 3G. There is not 3G signal on the property.

Then you have two different 2G services: CS (voice & CSD/HSCSD) and PS (GPRS & EDGE). Does it change anything in what I say? :)

Oh ok. I thought you meant it is specific to 3G.

I am now a bit paranoid. I worry now that people cant get hold of me. :-(

Use dumb phone, not multitasking one. When one service hangs, it will tell you straight away, as phone will stop responding. :)

I give credit to iPhone 4 on this one, it has separate indicator for active voice and data services.
