I just remembered that Norway also has eTolls, through most of the South. They even have it over their busier ferry lines, so you don't even stop to pay, you just drive onto the boat.
Buuut, the gantries don't take up 80% of the costs. They're made up of some scaffolding and a few cameras, no more intrusive than an overhead traffic light setup.

By definition, all of them are saltwater, ma'am. However, as to the level of saltiness i'm unsure. There's not much in terms of current through them, but sooo much ice and glacier water coming in from the mountains. I haven't gone to swim in one yet, but might do that just now because the station we're on now ran out of water. :/ We have drinking and cooking water that we bring up with us, but showering and cleaning is done with water on the stations which cannot be consumed because it is dormant for so long and contains legionella.

Oh right sorry. Nah I think it might'e been the camera trying to overcorrect or something. I'm not quite that tanned irl, but the sun's reflection off snow does give you quite a heavy sunburn because it's so cold that you don't feel you're burning.

This thread convinced me to be alot more exited about touring scandinavia , hopefully next year. Friends of mine living in europe wants to go there for their own holiday (and me tagging along) , and it wasn't first on my list , but seeing some of the pics i am now fully on board.
I saw this BANNF movie made by these norwegian surfers who stayed out in the middle of nowhere near a beach (and surfed). They would go to the closest town for food and seemingly, in norway, if the food has expired , it is free ...they walked out of the shop with a trolley full of stuff without paying.

Amusing part of the full movie is how crazy they went when they could see the sun. Although admittedly, most of the movie is pretty grey and grim, not the pretty pictures we always see

He was doing a Q&A during the screening of his latest film, Bjornøya. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4006384/ He also follows me on instagram now after seeing the arctic surfing pics I took of that spot they were in.
Do yourself a favour and try watch Bjornøya. It's literally translated to "Bear Island" and they spent a month surfing it. Amazing footage, amazingly desolate.
This is Unstad, the same place in my pics and an hour or so south of where I live. Surfed it a few times, it's properly cold but pretty great seeing the lack of sun thing:

I just realised that tunnel is like 15mins from where I am now...I wanna see if I can drive it, but it's 24km...then I have to turn around and drive back through it.

Cool, will look for it. The surfing looks hectic, but i guess it's of the very few places where you can snowboard straight into the ocean and immediately surf

I want to go to Norway now. Maybe in May.I am not going to derail this thread, but just to say that we have now been in Stavanger, Norway, for almost a month. We are starting slowly to settle. I will start my own thread with some pics as well as a look at the cost of living for anyone interested.

I'm keen to see your cost of living vs what it's like way up north. Also, don't stress about derailing, there's no way I'll be able to keep this thread remotely interesting by myself.
