Void in DoC

THE death of Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, coupled with the resignation of the director-general, leaves a void in the department that the industry hopes will be filled by a more liberal-thinking duo.

Surely with them gone, the gov can save money not having to pay someone to do nothing/sleep all day ?

Why not just disband the DoC? Very few countries have such a department; why should we have one that does nothing but place obstacles on the road of progress.

We don't need a "liberal-thinking duo". We need somebody that have knowledge of the industry, and the will to implement what is needed to pull us out of the telecoms dark ages.

VOID

There was more of a VOID there with the late Ivy than there is now. She did more to disrupt progress than anyone in the history on telecoms.

Bring in a new minister with technical knowledge of the business, and someone who can help this country progress to what we can be.

With the new cables coming into SA soon we need someone who is going to manage this properly, and not let it become a dogs breakfast like the SAT3 has become.

Does this mean the LLU is "imminent" and we can see Neotel and other providers can utilize same infrastructure we have paid for trough tax and service fees....

Ivy didn't do much as a Communications minister... all she did was hibernate for 6 months come out blabbering about some crap that will cost the Consumers more and caused more controversial discussions then go back to hibernation...

We can even spray paint him/her so it BEE/AA/EE complaint..

So who is poised to take over her role one has to wonder.. and will they take over her roll in its entirety? (i.e. stalling telecoms might not have been entirely be her own decision.. guess we will find out soon)

Dominic, how about we put some pressure on ICASA to finish a few things quickly now while there is no gov interference.

Like LLU, Cost based interconnect, Spectrum reallocation and use it or lose it policy?

And get rid of that stupid "overseas cables can only land in SA if they are majority SA owned" joke.

Can you believe it ?

Government said on Tuesday Minister in the Presidency Manto Tshabalala-Msimang would remain acting communications minister after her predecessor Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri died at a Pretoria hospital on Monday.

OMG! I think I'm going to be sick. That's a sick SICK joke!

Did they not see what that woman did to the Health sector?

B.

"Now I feel all bad about suggesting that someone throw a Telkom phone at her head"
Come now! B2048 - don't feel bad, you can always redirect it Manto Tshabalala-Msimang's head!

She passed away at the age of 71. Is it just me or was she too old to be a minister of anything. Her "liberal ways" was actually misunderstood for "old school ways" me thinks :)
