VoIP is an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol, and essentially refers to making voice calls using an internet connection, VoIP does not define any particular standard for transferring voice data over the internet, VoIP simply refers to the act of transferring voice data over the internet and not specifically which implementation to use.

Well known examples of VoIP implementations are: Skype, VoIPBuster.
