My Corsa D OPC isnt working out the way it was intended as a "family hatch". Looking for something a little larger with more doors - on a budget of <R150K.
Im thinking of an older Volvo V50 similar to the one below.

The one posted is sold. But what are your thoughts on Volvo. I don't plan on selling it for 5 years. I would want something capable of 0-100 in under 10 seconds.

Yea or Nay?

Brain fart got the best of me there and thought you were looking for a Volvo that does 0-100 in under 5 seconds...

I have a C30, love it, will never buy anything but a Volvo again. Aaaaaand cue the jokes

If the C30 T5 came with 4 doors... It would be in my sights. 2 doors just isn't practical anymore.

Jokes? I drive an Opel. I know jokes.

If you keeping it 5 years go for it!

You might need the expertise of roux to decide if this is station wagon or a sportback!

I have a V40 and the car itself is awesome. I do however regret buying a Volvo after having to deal with their customer care.

That bad Jouda?
Was looking at something older. So it would be free of OEM warranty. Was looking to possible go with an independent marque specialist in JHB.

My car gave me issues after only 40 000 km and I was without a car for about 3 weeks. Volvo refused to help me with a loan car and even after I proved to them that the dealership is full of crap and completely useless the only response I got was: " we cannot undo the past, we can only offer you an apology".

-1 for Volvo Dealerships then. Noted.

In all fairness, maybe I should single out the dealership that was beyond pathetic, it was the one in Boksburg. The dealership in Bedfordview thus far has been good and the one in Auckland Park not bad.

Good to know. Bedfordview agent is less than a km from me. *thumbsup*

If a Corsa OPS isn't working for you are a family hatch...then the C30 never would even with 4 doors.

The boot space is...well not there.

I had an S40, loved the car for the first year, then it started with problems at about 110000km's. Pretty expensive exercise and couldn't get rid of it after that because of bad resale value.

Fantastic drive and comfort, VERY expensive maintenance and parts plus impossible resale value.

My answer is no, don't get one.

You did 110 000 in a year?

****

Oh wait maybe you bought it second hand, then it makes more sense.

I've found the complete opposite with my C30 2L, maintenance is very cheap cos it has a Ford engine in it, no auto box, and no cambelt ;)

cos it has a Ford engine in it

Another problem with Volvo, every model has different set of components, they share very little. My dad also has an S40, different engine size and parts varied hugely in price/availability.

Volvo owners come in two forms I guess, those who stick with Volvo for life because they love it and those who sit with Volvo for life cause they can't get rid of them. You'll probably only know after buying one.
