Voortrekker Museum renamed

According to The Witness the new name is the "Msunduzi Museum". Hardly too offensive.

Why not an English name for a change?

Because the name changes are part of "their" conquering of SA. They did not win an election in 1994, they conquered the country and through name changing, they are removing the memory of all those that actually built, or were associated with those that built, SA. Thus SA becomes a hollow memory and Azania becomes dominant.

Also it is easier to claim things than to create them.

The "Pioneer Peoples Museum" has a nice ring to it :).

I think pioneer is just english for voortrekker, and since these pioneers were afrikaans/dutch voortrekker is more fitting.

'k so what's Xhosa for those_annoying_plundering_whiteys_with_ox_wagons? :p

those_annoying_plundering_whiteys_with_ox_wagons_that_kicked_our_arses HowWenna!!!!

What does that mean anyway and what was wrong with the original name?

The second part of your question I cannot answer. The first part - we live in a district now called Msunduzi, in the Msunduzi municipality. As in the "'Duzi" canoe marathon - the little river running through the city.

That explains it, well the name, not the logic. :)

There is a appropriate afrikaans saying that says "moet nie krap waar dit nie jeuk nie".

As far as I know Malibongwe means place of peace or some rubbish like that...

It isn't a person I know that :D..

IsiXhosa = Malibongwe
English = "Thank You" or "Praise" depending on the context.

Although there are many people with the name "Malibongwe", the street is not renamed after anyone. "Malibongwe" is a slogan for "Praise the Women" and was chanted by the women who marched against carrying passes in 1956. Initially, it looked like the road was to be renamed Nkululeko "Freedom" Drive.

And Msunduzi? ;)

My Zulu is not 100% but I'll try.

"Sunduza" means to push.
"Msunduzi" would then mean "a pusher".

So, they named a river "Msunduzi" because that named must have described a characteristic of the waters.

Its similar to the town "Umthatha" which is named after "Umthatha" river. Umthatha = "to take".

What's this suppose to mean? Do we all descend from the voortrekker???:confused::D:D

No,.. If the Voortrekers and others didnt start the goldrush, then the people would not have migrated to the areas where there were jobs... and if there was nothing to attract people to a specific area, then your parents might not have met....hence - you might not even exist. Mandela would not even be a hero then!.. he might not have even come in to being the figure he is.

Chain of events :D
