VOTE for better DATA RATES

I say :

1) Out of bundle rate should be same as your specific bundle rate. example: if you are paying 60c a mb, your out of bundle should be 60c per mb and not R2 per mb

2) A reduction on the basic rate of R2 per mb to R1 per mb

3) Reductions across the board on all the different bundles to fall in line with the maximum of R1 per mb and example bundles of:
1gb at R199 and so forth..... and a 10 gb at R 699
Sounds reasonable to me, as long as existing contracts are adjusted as well (i.e. it won't help me much if new pricing will only be applicable to new contracts). And that goes for SP offerings as well (I'm with Autopage).

Is there any way of limiting out of bundle access (i.e soft cap on bandwidth used)? I would not consider leaving a 3G connection unattended without some method of protecting myself from running up a bill into the thousands during a dead-hour download session.

Finally, any indication on the cost of the new all-in-one HSDPA data cards? I presume one should be able to use an existing SIM card in one of those?

Have a look at Netlimiter, might do what you want.

No pricing on the new cards yet, but I would assume they'll be available on the same contracts as current.

How about some carry-over of unused bandwidth? Even if the amount that is carried over is restricted, it will still be very handy.

How about it Vodacom, another first for wireless broadband in SA!

Here's a suggestion: scrap the in-bundle / out-of-bundle rubbish and give us a flat rate of R10 / Gig. Nobody will be able to resist that kind of offer :D

Yea right...
LOL, if Vodacom did that I would wear a t-shirt with that horrible animated dog/whatever thingy from their ads for a month :D

if other cell networks can give uncapped at R70 ( see this thread from begginning and youll see all the rates ) R10 for a Gb is possible - if Vodacom wants to usher SA into THE*WORLD - wonder how much they really will drop? V3G,any indications? is it R10 per gb or R20 per gb? LOL

Although you'll see that mobile data rates are really expensive in the European markets! Even more expensive than SA... like R11 PER MB!

yeah...we looking at developing countries like India etc...same like SA ---not UK etc..this was discussed in this thread that people in UK dont even look at 3g as a primary connection because of all the affordable 100 times cheaper broadband options availble to them

Yeah, I think I said that earlier on in the tread actually.

But it is interesting.

some more realworld rates:
Thailand:
Network: AIS
Cost: R139 gives you unlimited ( uncapped ) access for the first 3 months and another 200 hours free access from month 4 to 12.
Note: this is R138 for the year. Not monthly!

somehow, I doubt we will ever see those kinds of deals here

Somehow we are subsidising something, what it exactly is I don't know. All I know is that the government owns 39% of Telkom and Telkom owns 50% of Vodacom. You work it out. Is a drastic reduction in state coffers economically viable?

I just know the rates need to come down on Vodacom, MTN and Cell C's data. R0.20c per MB is a good start for reductions = R200 for 1GB

Last month I spent over a Grand on GPRS MBytes. Its crazy! 20 cents a MB sounds spot on to me but do you see Vodacom slashing their prices by 1000%?

Jeepers! And I thought I was bad spending a R150 - R300 a month on GPRS bytes... :D
I've since switched to using mtn as at least they have prepaid bundles..
Even 20c a MB I would still consider pricey, it'd still cost 200 bucks for a gig.. which is still more than adsl... dream on though

Without checking my bill, it was about 500MB which would give one about a grand, if the truth be told, this month is already R1500 odd so Im in for a shocker.
