Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Are the Vox DNS's broken? Having weird issues with sites not loading or being very slow.. may load on the 3rd refresh etc... its not a speed issue, that seems fine (although I have noticed the ping is higher than usual while gaming)

Currently set to get them automatically, router claim thus:
Preferred DNS Server: 196.22.218.248
Alternate DNS Server: 209.203.10.208

Also had the odd weird disconnect... where the account seems to struggle to reconnect and then after a long while eventually does

Backup afrihost account works fine when I use that... but I dont want to...

Ignoring the consumed usage for now; your understanding is correct.

At a certain "threshold", we will slow the speed down. If you didn't reach the FUP1 threshold, then you would be uncapped for the speed which you purchased.

You could have a 10Mbps DSL line, but only bought a 4Mbps uncapped account; in this scenario you'd run at 4Mbps until you reached FUP1 then we would slow your connection down mid-flight (no disconnect needed).

I hope this clears it up a bit.

The first threshold will need to be sufficiently high enough to make the product work, because lowering someone down to half line speed is quite the downside if it means the final week of every month they are going to battle to stream netflix or the like (imagine explaining that to the wife).

Personally, what would be useful to me is the ability to spend a bit more to get better thresholds at each line speed.

On a side not, won't this result in the network being underutilized at the end of every month? Wouldn't it work better if there were daily thresholds: e.g. (4meg account) 0 to 6 gigs 100% line speed, 6 to 10 gigs 50%, 10+ gigs 25%, with the number reset at 6am every morning.

Yes, they have issues with their DNS, see the following post,

Do me a favor, change your DNS to

DNS2: 209.203.10.208
DNS3: 196.22.218.248

And let me know if it's still not working. I think we have a problem with 196.22.218.248.

How do we fix this? My linespeed on VOX is now a 3rd than that with another ISP. Ping is 5 times slower.

Will there be any shaping or prioritization before you reach the slower speed?

Yip, eventually it loads ... but Vox extremely slow in DNS lookups at present with often no results being returned at all.

Once again the old DNS issues surface. I wish that Vox would fix them for once and for all *grrrrrr*

Yes, it does seem it's something else.

Some DNS working (support.oracle.com) but then it tries to connect to login.oracle.com and the DNS fails.

Apple also partially not working. although it's tricky to see where exactly it's failing.

Edit: And now all seemingly back to normal

As soon as I started having issues I switched over to my Telkom account. I don't seem to be having any issues with the Telkom account.

Same here, but no Telkom though, dare I say it, my MWEB account. Running full speed and ping of 23ms.

lol.. ran namebench and it claimed mweb was the fastest DNS to use after google for me... Since switching the VOX DNS around.. it seems marginally better. Gaming ping is still horrendous tho.

Had the same results. Which DNS settings are you using now? When I tested 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, my VOX line was all but dead.

The issues in Cape Town should be resolved Sep 9 2am, just as reminder.

I'm using the reversed VOX DNS as suggested.
DNS1: 209.203.10.208
DNS2: 196.22.218.248

Fahrq!!! That doesnt work either. Just dont get that VOX was so brilliant , and now my old ISP is out performing them by miles. Problem is, no suggestions/solutions are being suggested. Sad day indeed.
