Vox Telecom Fatpipe

I just know I'm in the North and I just tested all the normal things, except gaming, and it's flying.

Someone needs to take the shovel out of voxy's mouth. Just own up if it is a capacity issue. Although that begs the question as to why all the specials when not even a month later, big issues.

Sad really. Seen this movie before.

Ya. VOX telephone support insists it is an "as yet undocumented issue with an upstream provider" who has not given them any feedback as to the exact nature of this problem or any ETA but assures them that it is their number 1 priority. VOX support guy says it may possibly be a SEACOM cable break or similar but cannot explain why this is limited to VOX accounts.

Blah blah blah.

I have also seen this movie before... and I am not in the mood for popcorn and a repeat!

...I just hope it's fixed by tonight...or else I'm gonna have to get a second account from someone else for the time being, which I don't like cuz their fault is costing me money now :(

There's apparently a problem with the WACS cable (perhaps a break? some other error? don't have details) which is causing problems on a number of ISPs.

...but didnt VOX claim they had increased capacity in CPT a few weeks ago????
What happened???
Was it just an AH-style "stop-gap" measure???
I am struggling to TeamViewer into my PC which is on VOX... keeps disconnecting. My Afrihost account is working just fine, though there is the occasional browsing issue, too (nowhere near as bad as VOX).

VOX is more unusable than it was yesterday, and that was terrible. 14MB line only managing a "yo-yo-like" 50kb, with high latency spikes, horrible packet loss, etc.

Only in SA do you have to FIGHT ofr everything that is due to you, and what you pay for :(

Strange how only the VOX accounts seem to be affected... any other ISP reports of this? MWEB, Crystal Web, Web Africa, Afrihost etc. seem to be unaffected...

According to our peeps, there are no issues on WACS that we've been alerted to.

Hmmm...

From what I gather, Vox, Cybersmart, Neotel and TI are all affected to some degree. I'd guess different parts of the network utilise different backbones, but that's pure speculation on my part.

That should not effect the users.
How many undersea cables now land in South Africa, where is the so called redundancy?
If a cable falls over shouldn't the Internet re rout itself?

The internet was founded on the idea of a network that could have no single point of failure and could rout itself around issues.

Of course the South African internet is based on the principal of find the cheapest upstream provider, oversubscribe your user base and don't even think of paying for redundancy or backup links.

That is why Open Peering is vital and was abused in South Africa for short term profit as always.

Indeed. I see Cybersmart is issuing an alert..

International Bandwidth Degraded - 2016-01-20 22:46:05

A failure on one of our international circuits has degraded international access. You can expect slower international connectivity during this period as services have failed onto our other links. The fault is been worked on by our partners engineers.

Hmmm...

MWEB reported that international may be affected, I never noticed any issues earlier this morning. AFK now.

Ta.

No issues on my other accounts... all flying. Vox tho'... eish... sitting there for 8 minutes now... does not conclude the speedtest...

I guess will have to sit and wait for cable to be fixed and issue to be resolved then and see if the VOX stuff resolves itself then as well.

My kneejerk reaction is immediately IPC issues... cannot help it... been down that road too many times to want to endure it again.

Valued Customer

Vox Telecom customers utilizing DSL services in the CTN region, have raised concerns to Vox Telecom regarding increased latency, spikes in latency and poor upload and download performance.

The issues were raised with the upstream provider and feedback was received that the matter is being attended to.

Further communication was posted by the upstream provider: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/152559-telkom-internet-network-outage.html

Regards,
Michael

Voxy

How is it that you are the only ISP that has slowed down to a crawl and all the other ISP's are working like it should...
The "further communication" that you are referring to states that the issue is only in Gauteng but most of the MyBB post here in this thread seems to be Cape Town users...

So in short.

1. You are the only ISP affected by this issue.
2. You are referring to wrong incidents for wrong areas of South Africa.

You are feeding us lies, I believe you are experiencing IPC capacity issues.

Not exactly good on the IPC side.

It probably still is.
If the WACS cable is down and only Cape Town is effected then why have we been left hanging rather than being rerouted via JHB?
It could only be a lack of IPC that prevents rerouting combined with the political/business issue of not wanting to impact JHB users with CPT problems.

Running off VPN's atm.

They seem to work better.
