Vox vs CW price cuts

If I had to choose between the two, even though I like CW network, the fact VOX has rollover means that I won't be wasting unused bandwidth every month and won't need to buy a product more than my needs as my needs fluctuate every month. With rollover those fluctuations even out.

Come on CW. We need Rollover.

As an existing CW subscriber I would lie if I said that these prices aren't tempting, but I am happy with the service I'm receiving so I don't see a reason to move over at the moment.

I am 99% certain that point 2 is not correct at all. Business capped on our network is quite unlike anything other ISPs offer. It's difficult to get into the detail here without exposing trade secrets but there's simply no better account in terms of the way the product is configured. Roll-over can happen, and is busy being tested with a few other changes and add-ons...

I currently have a capped account with both : 200gb with Crystal and another 100gb with VOX bought on their special a while ago. 20Mb VDSL line.

Both are excellent but I have to give the *slight* edge to CrystalWeb here in Cape Town. VOX sometimes has a bit of a slowdown in the early evening - pages load a bit slower and Netflix quality drops a notch.

The free news server sure is nice but don't expect it to stand on its own. I used to add just a block account to it but it was being used a bit too often so now I have unlimited 10Mb plan from elsewhere + the free server + the block as backup. Getting 20Mb consistently with the combo and block is little used. But if you are an occasional downloader then you could get away with just a block backup and save a good bit of money.

Crystalweb's live chat is great as you do not even have to wait for a response to your mail. Questions are answered and issues sorted pretty much right away. Have not used VOX support yet so cant comment.

That free news server is a premium server and the contents are sourced from the same upstream sources as most international, premium news servers. We actually offer two free news servers: one local with minimal retention on IS, and our own offering which is a premium, 2000+ day retention multi-port server. Shouldn't be any need for the block account as it's in all likelihood a duplicate of the sources we already have. Nothing can be done about DMCAs though.

WRT config, we suggest the local as primary and the backup as secondary to ensure you get all content just about all of the time...

Hmm did not know there were multiple servers so I just entered one as I thought they were all the same server with different URL's. I'll add the rest and see how it goes. Thanks for that.

Can you let me know which servers have which retention so I can configure it properly? Also who you upstream providers are. Feel free to PM if not something you can post public.

Primary Server (no authentication required):
news1.crystalweb.co.za on port 119
No SSL or authentication required
Max connections: 10

Secondary/Backup Server (authentication required):
news.crystalweb.co.za port 23
news.crystalweb.co.za on port 80
news.crystalweb.co.za on port 119
Username: (as per your welcome email)
Password: (as per your welcome email)

We won't be able to disclose our upstream providers though I'm afraid...
 
NNTP downloads were pretty much out of bounds before 12am on CW, is this still the case? streaming and gaming was solid at all times so never had an issue with it

No I can get line speed (20Mb/s) with NNTP during the day. Don't do it often as the 12-6 window is plenty at that speed :-).

Thats actually awesome as nextGenNews is in my opinion one of the best providers out there.

Considering the price of 20Mb NextGenNews that adds a whole lot of value to the account.

What is the cost of a 100GB capped package? I'm going to be on the Telkom uncapped package, but want to add an ISP and switch between Telkom and CW.

So just need to know, what is the cost of a 100GB data on a 2mb Line
 
Ive just been on the nextgennews website and seen some unbelievable packages, but how do they work?

Not in my experience. My experience with Crystal Web has been very good. But my experience with Vox has been simply better. I switched over from CW to Vox earlier this week (both accounts still active). Granted, I don't game and I'm in Pretoria so can't comment on that. But regarding download speeds and Youtube streaming, Vox has been better- back when I had my Samsung promo account last year and now still in this week.
 
Hey DJ, what are pings like to the EU on your network? I usually do a lot of gaming to London and Amsterdam servers.
