Even if that's true there's an infinite number of ways of defining cost. Of course they're putting their self interest first, that's what they're expected to do. In an environment which hadn't been so hampered by government regulation it wouldn't be an issue.
 
interesting how this debate has turned out to be about the telcom companies income and nothing is said about consumer costs...the intention of this debate is to relieve the consumer of the high call costs,everything else is a sideshow...

Fact is that the interconnect debate has little or no effect on the consumer cost - excluding the possible benefit that the landline operators might pass on to the consumer as those rates were not symmetrical.
 
The intention of this debate is to pave the way for telkom's entry into mobile.

The debate would not have happened if telkom did not order their a** licking pawns to make it happen.

But of courser the "winner" and supplier of gravy; out of 11 years (like 1998 when cheaper broadband/telco costs was promised ?) now it is all of sudden a major priority for interconnect/broadband/telco costs to be dropped and revised. a. vodacom no longer with telkom and b. telkom is also going to do mobile...

...what is the controlling stake goverment has in telkom again, around 40-52% ?
