As per the title

Recently moved to Dubai and require a VPN, mostly for What's app calling as it is blocked here.

As well as Supersport streaming (if possible).

Anyone with experience from the UAE? I've tried Tunnel Bear etc but they do not work.

Thanks

And most porn... ;)

You might have better luck buying a cheap VPS somewhere and setting up OpenVPN on that....

try betternet
I use it for voip calling when in dxb, and its free

I couldnt get tunnelbear to work properly

Doesn't work for what's app calling and Betternet disconnects often

Isn't using a VPN in the UAE a criminal offence?

Or have I got the wrong country in mind? :o

uhm I don't know....will check
I see so many sites offering it though .....strange

When I was in Dubai on business I setup a squid proxy on a server in SA and used that for all my browsing needs.

:D

I would like to know too. Usage I'm interested in is Whatsapp voice and video calling only within the UAE, but with a ZA number.

Here is a little bit of info you may be interested to know: Friend has an Etisalat SIM card. Comes to SA (it automatically roams). He's able to make/receive phone calls, SMS's and can use data. His phone roams on Vodacom and MTN. Now bear in mind that he's in a country without Islamic restrictions. He is able to visit porn websites, torrent sites, and websites that promote hacking...using his UAE phone (all which he couldn't do in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, where he will return to). So I try to WhatsApp voice call him and can't get through. No difference whether it's mobile data or if his phone's connected to a wifi. Voice/video phone via WhatsApp is restricted on his UAE number. If you're using a UAE SIM, I doubt there's any VPN that will help. If, however, it's your SA number, I'd like to know about it.

Attached screenshot was from my tablet: trying to voice call him while he was in Pta. His phone was connected to WiFi. He got no notification or anything from WhatsApp to inform him of my call. Same situation with video call.

I found that Turbo VPN works for What's app calling - Best of all it is free

Available on the Play store and App store

Use it daily to call people in SA from the UAE

Ah so for my use it is legal, as i don't intend to commit any crime.

Tried purchasing a PureVPN sub - says card declined :wtf: on 2 different cards (Visa & Master)

Thanks

If you having trouble purchasing purevpn then pm me your email address and i will put you in touch with someone at purevpn who will be able to assist. I have a direct line of communication.

He'll need to change his phones region code to get it to work. Had the same issue with my note 3 when I got back to SA.

Betternet should do the job and runs directly on the phone so makes Whatsapp easier when you need it.

Don't forget that blocking of VoIP and WhatsApp calling is due to their telecoms laws. You would not want to attempt to bypass those blocks of you plan to stay legal.

I would 2nd the "get a VPS and your own VPN" because most services start to get blocked in the UAE. They monitor for chatter re: what works/what doesn't and blocks IP's.

If you have your own VPN that you run without any other people using it (making it obvious) then you'll be happy for a long time.

Er. Them blocking porn sites and editing movies to take out kissing scenes etc is law as well. so getting a VPN to bypass *ANY* blocks they put in place is against the law and criminally punishable, not just VOIP/Whatsapp calling
