In SBS 2008 the setup is quite simple, steps highlighted below:
  • Launch Windows SBS Console
  • Select the "Network" tab
  • Select the "Connectivity" tab ,in the right hand pane, under Tasks, select Configure a Virtual Private Network
This will launch the Setup Virtual Private Networking wizard
  • Select "Allow users to connect to the server by using a VPN" , then click "Next"
The system will configure virtual private networking on server and if possible, configure your ADSL Router as well

Your Firewall and/or Internet Router must have uPNP configuration enabled for SBS to configure the Firewall/Internet Router.
In many cases it will be necessary to manually configure the router/firewall opening TCP port 1723 for Virtual Private Networking through Port Forwarding,
Port Forwarding is quite simple when you follow the guides on www.portforward.com (I hope you know your ADSL model number, username and password)

Once these steps are complete, move on to the Users and Groups tab and allow VPN access
  • Select the User to whom you wish to assign the right to access the VPN.
Open the Properties dialog for the User, select Remote Access

Hi Anthro, I hope you can assist, I've just inherited an old SBS 2008 server at a new client of mine. The VPN was configured and have been working since the before the beginning of the lockdown. Now all of a sudden since Friday no one can connect via the VPN and if they do get a connection it kills their internet connection on their home routers (Fibre, LTE, etc.) Can you suggest how we can diagnose the issue or go back to a previous restore point - but I cannot find any restore points on this server?
