Vuma Reach Phoenix Thread

That sucks. Its a good thing the installation doesnt need power tools if you have a good route planned. You only need your CPE powered on for the registration process after splicing is done
i don't mind waiting... currently have Supersonic uncapped at home . However i am intrigued to see if i do get the full 40mb download speeds constantly

Not in the DBN area, but Vuma has installed here on our smallholding which is a multi-dwelling unit (16+ residents and 2 businesses).

They have the following all over the place. They have also dug up the bricks and put them back into place, but from what I can tell the actual fibre isn't in the conduit.

So my question is, how will they manage that?

They will pull them through those small junction boxes you see around the complex

@AfriNatic Do you guys still do the referral link thing yall did from the ADSL days?

I'm vying with cool ideas, soon 155-160 ping to EU. Nuts not to switch
I was contemplating CISP. But ended up choosing Afrihost because I was with them for years in the ADSL days with no issues. I just went back to a company I had good experiences with in the past.

Especially how helpful the rep is here, Afrihost is tops no doubt and I was about to pre-order with them but I'm after that low low ping

just curious what exactly is the difference between Vuma reach and normal aerial or trenched fibre rollouts, like when i see the costs and speeds Im wondering what the downside is. like i did some googling and see that router and ont are basically an all in one. but apart from that whats the difference from a normal fibre line? are the connections and speeds just as stable?

So far I know:

Trenched Vuma = Active Ethernet. (10 | 20 | 50 | 100 | 200 | 1000/100 Mbps)
Aerial Vuma = GPON (10 | 20 | 50 | 100 | 200 | 1000/100 Mbps)
Any Vuma Reach = GPON (20/10 & 40/10 Mbps)

Vuma Reach split 64 ways over 2.5Gbps down and 1.25Gbps up. So, 64x 40Mbps customers could theoretically contend over the same infrastructure with no hiccups.

Mainly, Vuma Reach is, for lack words, a "charity service" to "lower-income suburbs". Different speed brackets and much reduced price brackets.

Other than that, I suggest you ask @pinball wizard

Not charity bruh, we pay for the service but yeah you're right it was specifically designed for lower income suburbs.

With AE network from trenched network, Vuma can cheaply upgrade their network for 20 to 50gbit lines in the distant future as well.

"Distant future" :crying: So if that were technically possible, would we require new cabling to be done or could we use existing fibre cables to our homes?

Also had my fibre line installed today at 1pm but load shedding hit at 2pm so the splicing team may only come tomorrow.

The installers did a very neat and tidy job. They trenched laid the cable in my yard speedily and then ran the fibre cable through 2 concrete walls and did a wall mount with the ONT perfectly.

Not gonna lie. This 40meg is absolutely pacing
