So their cheapo ONT/Router has no problem handling 100mb through it's WiFi?

Yep. You need another router to get the full speedSo their cheapo ONT/Router has no problem handling 100mb through it's WiFi?
it depends on many things but youre more likely to have congestion on that band. That said if you live in house with lots of walls you might have problems with 5GHz as well and you may need to invest in a mesh type solutionSo their cheapo ONT/Router has no problem handling 100mb through it's WiFi?
The Huawei ONT only has 2.4GHz wifi and that band can get quite noisy with other wireless devices like a wireless mouse and keyboard, smart devices, gaming controllers etc so it would be best to improve performance by adjusting the wifi channels but with any wifi there is a possibility that you might not get full speed.

Why not a mesh solution?Adds to the dilemma where I'm going to place the ONT, it's between the dinning room which is central and lounge which has the console and TV but is the furthest room in the house from the bedrooms.
Right now I'm leaning towards the lounge. Looks like 100mb isn't viable for me until I upgrade to larger UPS and get a POE WiFi access points taking Load Shedding and power cuts into consideration.
In the case of load shedding or a power cut each mesh device will require its own backup power. With a POE access point run it off the UPS that is giving backup power to my router. Why not a mesh solution?
AP's will just add to the headache of getting an expensive POE switch and routing cables through out the house
Hmm good argument. Which AP's you looking at?In the case of load shedding or a power cut each mesh device will require its own backup power. With a POE access point run it off the UPS that is giving backup power to my router.
Maybe this if I decide to place it in the passage between the bedroomsHmm good argument. Which AP's you looking at?
@AfriNatic Is it still possible to be put on public IP's?
Cool can I be moved to one please?Yes. If we have available we can request that from Vumatel. Takes a couple of days but can be done.
