I've been looking at a number of Fibre providers, and a number of ISP's, just comparing them all.

From what I can see, Vumatel are quite cheeky in that they charge a massive R1700 install fee to the ISP. Why do they do this?

I see some of the ISP's pass this onto the customer.

Other Fibre providers are not charging this massive fee??

Is Vumatel the only one that charges the R1700?

I assume it's for the routing and installation of the fiber patch cord into your house, and the ONT. It can sometimes be quite a bit of work. Took them an hour and a half to do my installation. I didn't pay for it though, because AfriHost had a promo.

The 1700 is for running the cable into your house and installing the switch. It's not charged to the isp, it's charged to you directly.
The isp is charged a 900 rand activation fee when they taken you on board.

You are going to pay Vumatel R1710 for that line and ONT in your house, got nothing to do with ISP. Some ISP's had specials which they covered that for you, but those deals are over it seems. Then there is another fee that most ISP's have, between R500 and R999 for activation, and if you change ISP you going to pay that activation fee again to new ISP

Quick question: Are there any payment options available?
Say 3 to 6 months?

thanks for the responses. So if you are really unlucky, you will land uppaying the R1710 to Vumatel and the ~R800 activation to the ISP

sheesh, that's heavy

Yup, 3 or 6 months to pay the R1710, but many isps don't charge the R900 connection fee. CISP doesn't.

Response from vumatel:
Hi Hein. I have received feedback on this. There is a 3 month and 6 month payment plan which is offered should you wish to pay off the installation.

That's the CW fee, not the Vuma install fee...?
No, the Vumatel fee. The debit order was never loaded, so the accounts department told me to just pay every month until R1710 was paid off. Works fine, still have 1 payment to make. I get a statement every year

Aftet installation they will email an invoice. There will be 2 web links in the pdf. One takes you to set up the debit order, the other to Snapscan. Just use your invoice number as reference.
