I'm sure this has been asked somewhere but I'm failing to find anything on search.

I'm moving to a place where I can choose either Vumatel or Metrofibre. As far as I can tell, neither have been installed ever at this property. My current ISP (Home-Connect) is available with both, so I'm probably going to stay with them.

Aside from the general which-operator-is-better considerations, are there any objective/qualitative differences between the two? I.e. does one operator offer options or services that the other doesn't? Are there specific restrictions with the one that aren't present with the other? Other things to bear in mind?

Thanks in advance.

They are both decent providers, I would just start with package pricing and potentially installation costs.

Vumatel uses Active Ethernet while Metrofibre uses GPON.

Some say that Active Ethernet is more future proof compared to GPON and less prone to congestion, however GPON is still very much in use around the world and the FNO can always provision more bandwidth on the splitter etc.

@PBCool, if you can elaborate on this please.

Yeah look PON can always be upgraded to XGPON, as the needs arise the technology tends to address them. Active E can immediately do 10G or 100G per household. But realistically not a need at the moment.

Also not all Vumatel is Active E a lot is also PON

Cool. Will base my decision on packages and also ask neighbours if they've had major issues with one or the other. Thanks team

My experience with Metrofibre has been nothing but positive. Downtime is communicated in advance and quite rare. I have friends who use Vumatel and have no complaints either.

MFN also have their own ISP and are open access as well so you can sign up with CISP for example. I use MFN direct and had no complaints.

Vumatel does not have their own ISP so you will need to correspond with an ISP in order for your line to be installed/activated and a router delivered etc etc.

Can't speak for Vuma, but my father has Metrofibre (also Metrofibre as ISP) and he has been happy. He was one of the first people to sign up to them in the area. It's been a few years and he hasn't complained (and he loves to complain lol)
