Anybody got old clips from say 1996 African cup of nations so we can hear if there was this awful noise back then

That would be the year that SA won the African Nations. No need for clips - the vuvuzela was a non-issue back then. Had buggerall to do with football back then. I have no idea how or why it became a part of our football culture (however I still believe it has nothing to do with it)...

If its not part of the culture then why are they at every single local soccer match?
Just an excuse to make a noise, that's all.

And I don't understand why people keep saying that if we don't attend local matches, we shouldn't complain about the vuvuzelas. The reason we don't attend local PSL games is not because of the noise, it's because of the sh*t quality of the matches.

I think the reason they dont attend matches is because they have no interest in the local game. This is evident by the amount of discussions about local soccer on this forum.

NO, local football is ***** and the time of the games are *****ter.

Duh, and why do you think there's no interest in the local games?

I'll tell you...because it's $hite.

I find it funny that the people who have no interest in the local game are the ones making the most noise ;)
I think I'm gona buy me a vuvuzela this weekend

how come i only see ONE white player in the team? what happened to AA?

what was all the hype about with the cricket and rugby teams when nothing was done about the soccer team.....maybe that's why we dont attend local games, or could it be the number of AA spectators that scare the living bejesus out of us and not to mention that there is just nowhere to park safely..

just 2c worth.

Stop being an ass - "local" makes up one tiny percentage of the Confed Cup and the World Cup - yet we have to be subjected to that rubbish noise because a bunch of imbeciles don't know how to cheer using their voices? The World Cup has nothing to do with local "soccer" - in fact, the ****ty SA team will be lucky if they make it through the first round in the WC.

Local "soccer" is embarrassing. Fanteni couldn't even put his foot to the ball with a wide open net. It is embarrassing and that embarrassment is exacerbated by the mindless drone of the Vuvuzelas that really add nothing to the game.

If that is how local "soccer" matches are, then it is pretty clear why intelligent people don't attend local "soccer" matches.

And another thing: the only reason bafana are even in the next world cup is because South Africa is hosting it. Otherwise they wouldn't even have qualified. Local "soccer" is downright rubbish.

They handed out Vuvuzelas at the Intel stand at Rage 2 years ago. Was the most irritating thing EVER! I was sitting in the LAN area and idiots would blow on them every now and again.

Ban Vuvuzelas!

I don't think I'm the one being an ass.
Did you see the own goal Englands keeper conceded a year or so ago when he miskicked the ball? It happens. Get over it. I've even seen Steven Gerrard miskicking the ball like that this past season(think it was against Newcastle)

which is fine but don't make a huge fuss now that you've discovered the vuvuzela after 10 years.

Correction.

Local fans make up a small percentage of the World Cup. A large percentage of the Confed Cup.

The World Cup is FIFA's and is being hosted in South Africa, which means it has EVERYTHING to do with local soccer culture which is shared with spectators from around the world.
