Maybe Citi replacement in 2010 to get the VW Shytti arguments off MyBB. :D

Wouldn't this car cannibalise the Polo should it be released locally or could they jus strip it of features like ABS and passenger-side airbags? Would still be a whole lot better than the Citi- which as stated before is a sad indictment on the SA car industry.

Yeah it would cannibalise a portion of the Polo sales for sure... but VW will still be getting the money...

Not a bad replacement. :)
Little ugly though... but it can work.

This looks expensive - certainly not in the sub R90k bracket.

Not really, the inside looks crappy! So it will probablye be sub 100k also when they show these at launchs they tend to add extras like that chrome beading, bigger mags, lower suspension etc but I doubt they all standard.

Can anyone say "parts re-use"; the front alone looks like a VW Tiguan. Now show me a decent pic of the backside, and I'll tell you where it came from.

Ok JK8, so maybe the back is original - not a very creative original, but original nonetheless.

I dont see how it makes a difference that the front looks like a Tiguan, thats like saying the 1 series looks like a X3... it the same manufacturer.

Economies of scale, and re-use of parts to save costs; I have no problem with this but the savings aren't passed on to the consumer, and that's where the problem lies.

It would be interesting to see what they charge for this, considering that they're using existing tooling (which might already have paid for itself).

I dont see a problem with using the same tools to make budget cars, especially if it means that the process will helps lower the cars price, better for the consumer no?

In this segment everything helps so if its the same parts, which I cant see, it makes sense, imagine paying R5000 for a headlight on a R90 000 car... doesnt make sense, VAG is a good way to go imo.

The pricing might not be under 100k... but it will be below the Polo, those new Polos arent going to be cheap, but I see the smaller hatch segment from all manufacturers increasing to a minimum R150k mark...

There will be five options for the car: 1-litre, at (€ 11,527), 1-litre Trend, at (€ 11,900), 1,6-litre, at (€ 12,884), 1,6-litre Trend, (€ 13,261) and 1,6-litre Power, (€ 14,531).

The first price is a little lower than the one charged for the cheapest Sandero, in Brazil, so Gol would probably cost the same in Europe if it was ever sold in the Old World.

Prices do not include air-conditioning, audio system, power steering (available as a regular feature only for the Power), airbags, ABS, onboard computer or power windows. All these items have to be ordered, what increases final prices for all versions.

Ironically, the poorer Brazilian people pays much more than richer countries for the same of inferior vehicles. Carmakers blame the government and taxes; the government blames carmakers.

So basically, its a modern citi golf with no extras. These prices are in Brazil, converted to Euro's. So it will be cheaper in SA. But as a comparison, the 1litre basic model costs R153 309 in Brazil!

That is what it looks like to me. :(
