All I can say is that when a friend took me for a drive in a '08 DSG GTi, it was like being in a PS3! :D

That gearbox was much more fun! :D

You taking a big risk with such companies. For performance mods, use the reputable brands such as Revo,FRC,GIAC or APR. FRC will give you the best advise as well as backup support.

BTW which year model MKV you getting and how much you paying ?

VW Polo 1.8 T GTI 150 112 Kw 138 Kw 220 NM 280 NM

The car can do better than that. 310nm from Revo and FRC.
If you already thinking about the chip before you even get the car, make sure you get a BWA engine Gti... you wont regret it.;)

These figures are on a BWA Gti...

I thought a BWA is rumoured to be in the region of 165kw??? Or more than 147kw? Why you say that the 147kw figures are from a BWA engine then???

Well in the mainstream media the Mk5 is still rated at 147kw. But we know its around the 160 mark.
So he using it to advertise his product, you cant get 203kw with just a stage 1 upgrade from the old 147 engine, but you can from the BWA engine.

I would assume that the quoted figures are from factory-claimed (stock) to dyno'd (modded).

The G5 GTI has always been claimed to deliver 147kW, although the only people who believe that figure are those who haven't driven one. ;)

LOL ok...has this actually been tested on a reputable dyno? Like have a normal 06 GTi and a GTi with a BWA engine and it pops up different kw readings...joh, that had to be surprising, so what does VW have to say about this???

What's the diff between the engines then...only boost or what?

Manufacturers not being 100%... erm... honest about their figures isn't a new thing...

Oh ja, and like Alfa's Brera 3.2 - they claimed 6.5sec 0-100...the thing is a mere second slower with ALL that weight!

I would have to disagree... :)

I went through the process of buying a Golf 5 GTI a while back, and probably drove about 11 different cars before settling on one I found out in Ceres (in the middle of bloody nowhere!!)

I found the manual so much more fun to drive compared to the DSG. I reckon if you looking for that point and shoot feel... then go with a DSG, but if you looking to have a bit of fun, then I found that manual is the way to go! Thats what I think anyway... Use it, dont use it :D

quick question, regarding chipping a GTI. What happens if you are on a service plan, and you take your car in and they see you have chipped it, then what?

Or if something blows up (pop the turbo) and you take it back (chipped) wont they turn around and say, "sorry, your car is chipped, **** off!"

the official stance is that chipping voids your warranty, but if you make friends with the right people, then it's all good NNWWSNM ;)

FRC or Revo for MK5 GTi's, end of story. Chipping is not an issue with warranty because they will flash your original ECU map before a service and then put the new map back afterwards. With Revo you can buy their SPS (serial port switch) unit so you can switch between maps when you need to.
