VW golf 7 or Audi A1

:wtf:

That's like saying you prefer a Hyundai i10 because the i30 is boring.

Does not compute.
Golf's are everywhere.. I just found the shape so similar to my Polo. I just like the Audi so much more. I have the S-Tronic in Red and Silver (2 tone) and its lekka.

Resale value also does not compute. Cars are not investments.

Of course it does. Virtually every car will depreciate, but it makes sense to limit the amount of damage done when the time comes to get rid of it. Unless you're an Opiel fanboy, in which case sense doesn't factor into anything.

Unless you are getting rid of a car with its value below R50k you should ask yourself why you are getting a new car.

Oh what's that? You want a new car - well why didn't you just say so instead of mucking about with excuses such as "resale value" and "fuel economy".

Because money doesn't grow on trees and wanting a new car does not have to mean you want to throw away every free cent you have into owning and using it.There are other things people need to buy in life too.

Save R20000 a year on fuel and you could upgrade two phones for cash once a year as an example or even go to an exotic island with that extra cash.Get R40000 extra back on resale value and your next car can be specced out with better features and so on.....

Ever thought how much you save on interest, depreciation and insurance by simply not buying a new car? Actually there is no such thing as a new car, its old tech fossil fuel burners that will only cost you more and more every year.

You save on insurance by not buying a new car? Really?

You could get those same benefits by not buying a new car though and actually paying your current car off.

The reasons to buy a newer or new car are too numerous for this forum to handle however I will detail a few for you that human beings want/need.....improved reliability, efficiency, ease of use, safety, comfort, noise levels, handling, environmental impact, space and of course the feel good factor that comes with a fresh new design you like.

Thankfully I have bought my cars for cash in the first place.I always encourage people to pay their cars off as soon as possible,I agree you can definitely save a lot of cash that way.

There you go - so can we all just stop beating around the bush and trying to find excuses for buying a new car? There is nothing wrong with your current car you just want to buy something new.

It's not a question of need, its it a question of want. Nothing wrong with that, just don't lie to yourself because it gives you pleasure.

Some people actually NEED a new car for many of the reason mentioned above.Especially reliability, comfort, safety, environmental impact and so on...not everybody travels 1km a day to work or short distances so new cars become an actual need.

Lets talk about "environmental impact" - do you have any idea how far you have to drive your new car as opposed to your current one in order to even break even with the environmental impact of manufacturing said new car?

My impact is offset by people who cycle a lot.

But seriously, everybody buys something new. Be it a car, computer... etc. As far as I can remember, you're in the tech industry. Not the cleanest of industries with regards to waste. Are you going to try doing your work on that amber screen 286 in your basement, or maybe something newer?

Of course you do.

A new car has higher cost and therefore higher risk associated with it so you'll be paying more every month.

Even though you would still have insurance on the car you already have...it's significantly cheaper.

IIRC you'd have a tough time even insuring a car that is >5 years old.

Risk is also assessed on an individual level, not necessarily on the thing being bought. While it might factor into it, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't go down to the new vs. 2nd hand level. Even if that was the case then it would make more sense that 2nd hand purchases carry a higher risk since there is no way to gauge the way the previous owner maintained it.

Volvo V40 T3?

1.6 Turbo (110kw/240nm) - R292.000 prediscount and that's brand new. Probably get demos around R270,000.00

Active Xenon, City Safe and pretty much all the other gadgets. Plus check out the dash ... active TFT display :

That Volvo is stunning. It's a pity people in SA are so pro VW.
