Vw jetta 4 1.8T

Depends on the car, they charged me R2500 for my 1.4T, gained 18kw 40nm.
No mods to the car

What made you choose ATM and not the more popular well renowned guys?

Chipping a 12 year old 180 000 km car is not clever, whatever way you look at it.

Even if you have rebuilt the motor and it's back to new, the rest of the car is not.

All I can say is DON'T.

:erm:

ATM are well known in the tuning circles, there are a myriad othe roptions as well, Revo, Celtic FRR, Race chip. I wont go the Unichip route though.

Buddy of mine had this 1.8t motor in a city golf. 215kw at the wheels...

I spoke to one of "popular" guys via the phone, where they gave me an email address to send my quote to and any other queries, its been about 14 months and 2 emails, no reply. Terrible service.

ATM helped me on a sunday afternoon, real quick. and R1000 cheaper as well for similar power gains.

That's true though.
It's always better to have a personal relationship with your tuner. Some of the popular tuners jus can't keep up these days.

Anyone had experience with a decent touch screen gps/audio unit like the Caska units?

Ok so the advice is not to mess about with the jetta......

Such bad advice.
The 1.8T is one of VW most modified engine. It's solid won't fail.
Do software and a performance filter.

Do you have the 110kw or 132kw?

But you telling the guy to put in a performance filter (which will do nothing for performance except let in dirt).

If you are serious about more power you should start by ascertaining the health of the motor as it currently stands. Test the compression, put in some oil and test again. At least you will know the condition of the bore and rings sealing and sealing of the valves on their seats.

If it's all good then you could up the boost a little via software. You will be increasing stress on the car and therefore trading off longevity for power.

Errrm, do nothing for performance? Are you one of those that believe an oiled filter always stuffs up the MAF? Lol.
The performance filter will help the car breathe better.

Ascertaining the health of the motor? Aint no body got time for that!
Just do a VAG scan and load stage 1, the car will be fine im 100% sure if the VAG scan comes out clean.

There are some of these engines pushing out over 170wkw and 420+ nm at he wheels with standard turbo and internals.
Im sure his 110kw will do fine with another 20% power.

While im all for modding, im also all for taking precautions
Your advice is reckless, of course he should make sure everything is 100% before doing any mods

btw I also have never heard of ATM before
I prefer to stay with the bigger known brands

Also OP you can find out all the info about tuning and the aftermarket radio if you join the vwclub and ask there, like I mentioned to you before...

Cleaning out oiled filters and re-oiling every few 100km. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Oiled filters are for race cars. Engines which will never even do 10 000km. They clean them with solvents after every race weekend and re - oil them. They are not for road cars. They do let in more dirt than regular filters and if you over oil them you are going to get oil in your idle control valve and any sensors in your intake manifold.

They make them for road cars because it's an easy way to part a fool and his money.

Increasing stresses in an 11 year old car with 180000km without knowing the health of the engine isn't wise.

Reading the ecu will not tell you how well the valves are seating or how much compression is escaping past the rings.

They fine for 15 000km and can be cleaned when your service is due and have a lifetime warranty.
They do help performance even if its just 5kw.
Software increases boost so a better filter helps.

Theres 20valves, no time to check if they sitting right, but if the car has a full service history, is in good nick, do the software. The worst that can happen is that the weak part will expose itself and can then be replaced. Most of the time its just boost pipe or coil pack.

If you have not experienced a decrease in mileage or engine performance, chances are your filter is fine and does not yet need cleaning. To be more specific, the filter does not require cleaning if you can still see the wire screen on the entire air filter regardless of how dirty it may appear. When the screen is no longer visible some place on the filter, it is time to clean it. When used in normal paved road, street or highway conditions, our replacement air filters that fit in the factory air box should require cleaning every 50,000 miles and our large conical filters on an intake system should require cleaning every 100,000 miles. When used in dusty or off-road environments, our filters will require cleaning more often. We recommend that you visually inspect your filter once every 25,000 miles to determine if the screen is still visible.

Granted that is from K&N itself, but every few 100 km is completely wrong.
