VW owners.....

You can always contact your VW dealership (not the number in the sms- Google your preferred dealership) and find out that way, but on the surface it seems legit.

+1, the SMS literally states "contact your preferred Volkswagen dealership". No idea why there's suspicion about it.

It's clearly a bulk message, there us absolutely no need to include personal details in there.

They're asking you to contact a VW dealership... They aren't asking you for your credit card details or passwords. There's nothing suspicious about it.

this fool is saying WTF, who sends out a bulk SMS saying your towbar might fall off,
what if you dont drive a polo? what if you sold yours years ago, and got a Proper car like a Toyota?

makes no sense honestly, sounds like the beginnings of a scam, but not quite there yet.

Proper car companies like Toyota, still contact me, for my ex-wife's Yaris, that was sold in 2013 or 2014 :ROFL:

Just call or go to your local VW dealer and have the VIN checked :unsure: It is a pretty piss poor scam if it is one.

and what does that SMS look like? saying vin XYZ has a recall out on it,
and this one with no VIN or REG has nothing

seems very suspicious to me. or a poorly thought out scam

The message was sent to a Polo owner not to everyone? Or did you also get the message?

Toyota has sent out similar comms in the past. I know, I've received such back when I had my 86.
There's nothing suspicious about it. They literally just ask you to check in with your preferred dealer on a recall.
 
@eg2505 what about that is a scam? Recalls are done on when an issue is determined with a part or process. They know exactly which models were produced with it (by VIN). They trace the VIN and see who it was sold to. Contact details are available because you sign documentation when you purchase a car.

Everything about the SMS screams this is NOT a scam.

how do they know you have a polo? and why isn't it more specific like this model between this year and that year is requiring a recall.
I mean I would expect them to have a VIN database of what polo model was sold to what person, and send out to all those people a SMS

seems fishy to me, maybe its my Tin foil hat time, but I cant understand why such a generalist SMS sent out,
if I got it, Id just delete it and move on with my life, we don't have a VIN search website in SA (unlike the yanks), so how many people are driving around with cars requiring Recalls?
