Hi fellas,
Anyone know if changing the front indicator bulb on aVW Polo 1.6 (2006) is doable by oneself.
How is it done & is it easy?

Thanks

I paid almost R400 at VW to get mine replaced. Would love to know how to do it myself for next time, i think its a huge waste of money for a job that took less than 5 minutes.

check the vw forums, but it can't be that hard as on my dad's audi it took removing 3 screws and on 2 plastic clips, and taa-daa

Good GRIEF!!

Step 1 . Open cubbyhole
Step 2 . Remove handbook
Step 3 . Look at index and find section called "Electrics"
Step 4 . Read instructions

It is SO simple that my 4 year old daughter could do it if she could read. It will involve a Phillips screw driver, supplied in the toolkit, and the purchase of a R4.50 globe.

I cannot BELIEVE that someone could spend R400 on such a simple job...sorry, that is plain stupid...how many million did you pay for the car in the first place? The guy who collected the R400 must be sitting in the pub getting free drinks whilst he tells this story!!

AAAARRRGGGHH!!

So Fazda, after getting to step 4 and finding out that the way to fix/replace the light bulb is to take it back to the dealer according to the handbook, how do you reckon this is a simple job??? I'd rather spend R400 on the dealer fixing it than me guessing and probably breaking something.

Hope these links will shed some light ;)

Sorry, but I don't do R400 bulb replacements.

I have owned 4 Polos and changed bulbs on each one, and I have not broken a thing, neither have I spent R400....sorry that charge is for suckers only!

Ummmmmmmmm I think those links are hosted by the Prince of Darkness, as they will not allow you to read anything if you are not a member in Link 1 and there are no posts in Link 2...

Turns out this is (more or less) correct.
You don't even need a screw driver for the turn light,
- turn to page 83/84 of manual
- just remove cover,
- take out bulb holder
- replace bulb &
- put everything back

of course, VW charges 43ZAR for the actual bulb!

Thanks! Still beats the hell out of coughing up 400 bucks for something anyone with half a brain can do for themselves!;)

Sure does, & you wouldn't even need a 4yr old to read & do it. A 2 yr old could probably do it if you lift the bonnet for them.:D

No, this is false...on the 'bubble-headlamp' Polo, the picture on page 83 is for the park and not the headlight beam. There is NO retainer clamp on the headlight beam....I cant' get it out...!!

How do I do this...?

I'll charge you R200 to replace the bulb, since you're that naive, or lazy.

Honestly, it's SUPER easy. I can teach a 3 year old how todo it. My 67year old mom can do this herself as well. She can even change the oil on her diesel bakkie.

1. Open the bonnet. IF you don't know how, consult your handbook & google "how to open VW Polo's bonnet"
2. Get a torch (it may help a bit if you're working in a dark spot)
3. get a beer / brandy / wisky / etc, since if you reach this point it may be too difficult for you.
4. Pop your head under the hood, in the front left corner where the lights are. Remove the black dust cover
5. Remove the spring that hold the bulb in place
6. Remove the bulb
7. put a new bulb in, and open another beer.
8. put the spring & dust cover back
9. pat yourself on the back, you just made R400 profit.

I changed by indicator so it cannot be false;)
I'm not driving the car today, otherwise I'd take a pic & post here.
In fact forget the manual, open your bonnet & see how easy it is.

Hi,

I have a 2005 polo and have just now discovered that my main headlight bulb is blown. I've removed the globe and see it's a Philips H7 12V 55W. I went to Midas and they are already closed so I'm wondering where I can get a globe at this time on a Saturday and also if anyone knows roughly what I should be paying for one. The dealership is only open again on Monday but their parts dept. is the last place I'll be going anyway. Do any of the garage shops sell these? I take it they're fairly generic and won't cause me hassles if I have an ACME globe on the left and a Philips on the right?

Nevermind, my local garage had it for R45.

Luckily it was the left side next to the battery because on the right side there's no way to get in behind there without taking things apart.

Bumping an ooooold thread.

My headlight has snuffed out, but the car is still on maintenance (not service) plan. I know if a rock or a trolley hit the light and smashes it, it is not covered. But if the globe has blown, is that covered? If at all possible I'd like them to change it (driver's side), and peek over the mechanic's shoulder while he does it.
