VW Polo: Changing front indicator bulb

Why bother anyway? These things are so cheap.

Yesterday I sent my wife round to the garage that services our cars, her Astra needed a new headlight bulb. They charged her R120 for the bulb and fitted it for free right there in the parking lot.

The maintenance plan specifically states that tyres are not covered. It also says lights, but then proceed to mention glass and plastic parts. So it is a bit vague. They've replaced my break pads under maintenance plan, so I'm hoping for the best. I should be able to do it myself, but it would be nice to have a "tutorial" by someone who've done it often before.

@SoftDux - I think most of the reps are sharks. I once asked one what the easiest way is to replace the fog light. He gave me instructions which included taking off the belly plate... In reality you only need to take off the cover next to the fog light, from the front, and then it's easy going.

Because there's no way I'm going to pay VW to change it. If it under MP, they can do it. If it's not, I'm willing to lose some skin on my hands to concort them to get to that silly globe. I had the rubber cover off tonight, and even that was difficult to get to.

Strange that it's that hard to change - I have replaced bulbs on a few cars now and it is one of the simplest tasks to do. Well except of you have a Renault megane :

I haven't replaced one yet, so I can't really comment on how hard it is. But there's been so many reports on how terrible it is, that I'd rather play it safe. I have replaced bulbs on other cars, and have never experienced anything difficult.

Update: I phoned VW Hatfield, and they will replace it under motorplan while I wait (and watch, though they don't know that yet).

Its as easy as opening the car door!
I can change it in less than 30 seconds.

Theres a plastic stalk below the back of the headlight. turn it left or right gently, pull out(towards the rear of the car)
Change bulb
Pull plastic stalk and new bulb back.

The only bulb thats difficult to change is the high beams (Brights) the rest are as easy as changing a normal bulb at home.

Moving away from VW and maybe OT, but I really wonder about garages sometimes. GM in Edenvale wanted to charge me 5 grand to replace the heater control unit in my Astra because they couldn't replace just the globe behind the airflow direction control. Centurion GM would replace, but labour is one hour for taking the dash apart (this I understand). Then a non GM repair shop wanted to charge me 2 grand to replace the fan control unit which was apparently causing my cooling system light to stay on. Centurion fixed that wiring issue no charge.

I'm still a bit hesitant about the 11 grand aircon compressor replacement. Anyone know of a decent place Centurion/East Rand wise that does a reliable job of fixing an Aircon?

r11k

FFS you could get an entire system installed for less than that.

I am not sure if they do it but there is a place around the corener from my work that does autoelctrical and have helped me out with other issues, I think it is called cs electrical, in Boksburg, give em a call maybe.

Otherwise have you gotten a price on a part?
