I have a late-2008 VW Polo Classic Trendline with a remote central locking receiver in the car but no remote as such. So to enter the car I manually unlock it with the key.

I asked VW for a quote on a remote only and the total came down to R1600 for a remote with the syncing service. That sounds ridiculous to me since I can get keys with remotes on eBay for under R200.

Is there a 3rd party place in Pretoria/Centurion that can supply me with a remote and sync it for cheaper than VW can do it themselves?

It's like you buy a car from VW then they punish you for doing that.

Much like medical aid pricing this is one of those things that gets magically inflated because insurance normally pays for it.

R1600 actually doesn't sound to bad in the bigger scheme of ridiculous quotes I've heard.

But I'm sure there are many third parties that can do the job as well.

Not a bad price. Recently paid R1700 for a fiesta key with remote + cutting and programming.

When my old Golf 3 was stolen and recovered, I went to an after market alarm specialist, and they reprogrammed 2 new original VW remotes and cut new VW keys. Cost about R3,000.

I'm sure VW would have charged a whole lot more for exactly the same thing.
