VW Polo problem with car stalling while driving

Hi guys I've got this exact Dame problem... I managed to find a way to avoid the car from dying... When this happens I keep my foot exactly the way it was on the clutch and leave acceleration cable... Car comes by... However I just replaced my fuel pump a month ago... And I only get this problem when my fuel gauge reaches halfway before my tank is half..

@thechamp could this problem not be temporarily solved by adding something to keep the butterfly open a tiny bit? Like idle screws did on carbies, I'd build up where the butterfly seats on the throttle body with a bit of insulation tape to where it idles just over a thousand.

I've replaced the throttle body aswell... I took it off a 2nd hand polo Playa... My car use to idle extremely high... But I'll check that out... I'm also thinking it could be dirt in fuel tank... I'm not sure Thou... But it seems this is a common polo problem

Have you replaced the O2 sensor at any point?

Also does the engine light come on or flash just before it dies?

Engine light comes on when igni3is put on but goes off after a few seconds... No haven't replaced O2 sensor

It's worth a try.

Unless you can recreate the problem when the car is connected to a Diagnostic reader so they can see what happens you will just be replacing thins in the hope that it's the cause. Perhaps get a quote from one of these mobile diagnostic guys.

Check your fuel (diesel) line. Got mine sorted after almost replacing every sensor, diesel pump, filter etc. we thought it was or could be. Ended up being the fuel pipe from the tank to the engine having a bend in it. New unbent pipe, happy car, happy owner

Quite a number of reasons why your car might stall while driving. It might be a faulty alternator, a bad coolant sensor or lack of fuel, or a bad fuel pump. You will need to rule them out one by one in order to find the cause of the stall;)

Yeah, if only the ECU could create logs so many of these problems could be solved chop chop

It can, well not the ECU per say although it does store fault codes which can be read at a later stage, but you can drive the car with diagnostic software logging via the OBDII port.

This is what I was thinking, can then create a log with the software and analyse later.

You do need someone who knows what they are doing, what reading blocks to log, how to interpret it later, etc. but it can be easily done. This is how most software/tuning houses work, their local representative will drive the car logging certain reading blocks in certain conditions, send the logs to the head office who then 'develops' a software/tune for the car and then the process is repeated to make sure all is within spec.

Some cars have a small hole in the fuel cap. Way back a mate had a bantam that use to cut out because the little hole was blocked.
On one of my cars they ask you if you perhaps fill the tank to full. "that little hole hole is there for a reason."

Hi Peeps. I need some advice. My car starts fine, drives fine, but every 2 to 3 km the fuel pressure disappear and the car dies. It then usually only start after the 3rd swing. Then there's a very strong petrol smell. Fuel also drops fast when this happens. It then drives fine and then the same happens.

The car doesn't die immediately. You just suddenly feel no power on the accelerator. When this happens and you put in the clutch is when the dash lights comes on and car dies.

Please forward any ideas of what it can be.

Thanks,
I also have the same problem on polo blm after changing the fuel pump please help

It was back fairing, hard start and no power..but after changing the fuel pump it just started easy but after 1 km driving it just cutdown till I restart my ignition

Check the coils as well as the fuel pump relay, coils are expensive so start with the fuel pump relay, the assumption is of course that the car is being serviced properly and things such as spark plugs and the fuel filter are in good condition.
