VW Tiguan problem

The first question I would ask is how do you go about driving in the morning.

Are you a start the car and immediately drive it flat out around the corner kind of person, or do you start the car and immediately drive off at a leisurely pace, or are you a start the car and take half a minute to kick into life while you open/close the garage and put on your seatbelt and set your GPS etc?

Sorry for only reporting back now. My style? I turn on the ignition, wait for the glowplug lights to turn off ten start. The I fasten my safetybelt etc then I leave at a slow pace.

To report back on the car, the problem seems to be gone. I tested the car under various conditions during the weekend but nothing. Now I'm in two minds regarding this. Did they actually fix the problem? Temp fix? Was it the airbox? I will not believe the story of the airbox, it just does not make sense but anyway.

I am just drive like I normally do and when the problem comes up again, back to VW.

Ok so my car went back to VW yesterday. I had to be there this morning early to drive the car with the technician inside. I stood there waiting for half an hour before I saw someone driving around with the car. They said nothing is wrong with the car besides a small shudder. I asked the guy why they were driving the vehicle and not me only to be given some useless explenation.

Now I searched on the web and came accros an audi forum where members have the same problem as I do. I am going to paste one of the replies here and hopefully someone can tell me if sounds about right as this is the exact same problem I have.

I also have a feeling that they are NOT going to fix this problem as everytime they drive, they notice nothing. It is so bad that in the mornings people next to the road hear the shuddering noise. Here is one of the replies from a member on the audi forum:

A

They took the car apart and found that the bearing in the centre of the flywheel was damaged and causing grease to leak onto the parts around. They replaced the clutch, flywheel and all ancillary small parts and I collected the car yesterday. It's like driving a new car again and as they lent me a brand new equivalent car for the time they had mine I can say that with confidence! The clutch is as light as the one in the new loan car, (mine was much heavier, possibly due to the problem, possibly due to age. Who knows?!) and there was zero judder yesterday. The car has been sitting on my drive all night so driving it this morning will be the acid test I guess but so far so very good, particularly as it was all done under warranty.

I just want to tell them to open the clutch and check all of the components but I know they will not do that. They still have the car(not working on it) and will send a report to VW HQ or someone and ask for advice.

Edit: the foreman called me now saying they need to still check a couple of things. He also mentioned that if they need to take everything appart and not find any fault, I will be held liable for the cost of the labour.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with this. Can't they keep the car there for a night so they can replicate the problem first thing in the morning? Or maybe try going to a different dealer?

The car was there lastnight so that I could replicate the problem for them this morning but they decided to drive the car without me this morning.

I would be furious by now...

If you don't escalate it to the dealer principal, they are not going to sort the problem out.

I honestly don't really know what to do anymore. I know there's a problem with the car but they seem to know otherwise.

Welll, now what needs to happen is I guess you will need to leave it with them again. But this time park it where ever it must be parked and take the key home with you.

Hi.

I experience a similar problem to what you experienced, with my 2013 Diesel Tiguan. You said that Barons N1 city fixed your problem. A loose air box... I contacted them but they can not, find record of such a particular problem on their system...

Can you please tell me if they definitely sorted out your problem or if you have any additional information regarding the clucth shudder?

Thanks!

I have a vw tiguan, bought it new in 2011 and currently the car has 53 000km. Recently I have been having a problem when pulling away in the morning or driving again after say 6 hours of non driving.

When I pull away(when its cold) in the mornings it feels and sounds like the engine wants to fall out. The car does not want to take to the clutch so I have to sort of rolling pull away or use the hold assist.

This will happen until engine temp reaches approx 80 degrees. Its difficult to explain the sounds that the car makes but it scares me. Could this be a cluth problem? I will take the car to VW tomorrow but by the time I get there the engin temp will be normal and the car will not show these problems and then they will just say that there's nothing wrong with the car.

Any ideas or have anyone experienced the same problems?

No they never fixed my problem because they are a useless bunch of ****s. If your car us still under warrenty then force them to open the clutch to look at the problem.

I am not surprised that they dont have a record of the problem because they dont seem to knkw how to listen.

Typical VW aftersale service.

Strange, I know two people with Tiguans, one a 1.4 TSI and the other a TDI and they have never had issues. These are some of the best cars VW makes and one of the few models I actually like. The problem here seems to be Barons and their attitude, not the first time I have heard people complain about them.

Not good news. Yes my car is still under warranty with 20000km on the clock.
I am very happy with the Tiguan except for this intermittent cold start clutch shudder problem.

I wonder if it can be something to do with the ECU cold start calibration rather than the actual clutch? Does not make sense why the clutch will shudder only when the engine is cold and also being so intermittent. Maybe it is the entire engine shaking because of a fueling problem or something.

Did you replace your clutch or are you still driving it with this problem?

I just ajusted my driving style to rev it a little bit higher than normal when pulling away. Goodluck taking it to VW. They will tell you that YOU will be held acountable for the charges if nothing us wrong which will be more than R4000.
