W@P's Solar System

They have preferred /recommended installers in areas.

So you buy from them and then contract the installer separately?

Or do they contract the installer and arrange it all?

I’ll drop them a mail regardless because their pricing compared to what I got today is like the difference of VAT being added or not almost.

Does the SSEG registration really cost R6000? Excl.

1. You contact and conclude private deal with installer

2..Unfortunately due to their success, this is a hit and miss issue. Sometimes they never get back to you other times you may get a quote on first contact

3.No idea. Guess it depends on area. Sounds like a DA cost

Yep, they will recommend an installer, or you can choose one from the long list of Sunsynk approved installers. And yes, PFS pricing is consistently excellent, they are very fair.
Just don't expect delivery soon, it's all still a bit of a mess, with Covid closing China down, and then when the ships finally left, they find that they cannot dock in Durban harbour because of the KZN floods. On top of that there is load-shedding which increases demand, and then there are speculative orders from suppliers for containers full of batteries that they have no buyers for (yet) in anticipation of price increases. All of these factors will affect any supplier, not only PFS though.

My own solar panels and mounts for my Kabookie install 2 months ago has still not yet arrived, delayed for the 3rd time now :( Also not PFS fault, but rather Segensolar.

Yeah I realise now is a terrible time and that even if I commit today I’ll be waiting at least a month.

There are just so many extra charges on this list that baffle me that I’m asking for alternative but same detail quotes.

Like R11730 excl VAT for “GS50 Battery Installation Accessories” sounds like sundries charges bullshit at car dealership.

Do you mind posting your quote? Minus any branding etc of course...

Sure thing as I would like some input anyway if I’m just out of touch with the extras in play or I’m being ripped off.

Will do in the morning in a new thread and tag you.

Yes, I have my local electrician/solar guy quote me on installation.
Steve from Powerforum store called me on Monday to inform me when my stuff will be shipped. He mentioned that he put in an order of about 100 x hubbles over the weekend. He really is swamped. And every time load shedding hits he gets swamped even more.

I would also like a definitive answer re the SSEG registration. I know there is a lot of paperwork involved in registering your system, but I couldn't find confirmation iro any fee payable to CoCT.

I have heard/read that they can charge u a fee if they discover your system is unregistered and they then send someone out to disconnect your system from their feed.

Is there actually any fee payable to register a system and if so how much? Any Cape Town members that can provide clarity?

Adding on to my previous post, from CoCT's website.
You must apply and obtain written consent before installation. I have also seen installers adding a fee of over R6k for this "registration" to their quotes, but it seems they are taking advantage. I gladly stand to be corrected though from someone with firsthand experience.

The SSEG is definitely a real thing, the question is rather the variance in pricing from one installer to another.

This guy I know down the street from me. He demolished his house to build a new one. I heard he had a solar system installed. Liewe Fok.
I counted 104 panels on his house, the bottom one. Top house is his dad's house.

Apparently he didn't even connect the municipal power feed when he rebuilt his house. Fscking crazy.

And a central AC system with ducting throughout the house. I estimate the cost around R500k.
Similar to these units.

My dad's inverter was installed yesterday. Still waiting for the hubbles. Apparently stock is stuck in Durban. 3 containers full afaik. So a lot of people waiting on stock. Meanwhile, i am monitoring his usage with an efergy. And he has these strange spikes in usage at night and in the mornings. Don't know wtf is causing it.
Geyser is on a timer from 06:00 and from 17:00. Then there are 2 double door fridges, one of those under counter bar fridges with the glass door, and an upright freezer. Then just all the bits and bobs that make up the baseload.

Something is chowing power and i don't know wtf it is.
