WA 30 gig rumor?

I just heard from a friend that the WA 30 gig "special" was rigged and even though a bunch of random people did receive the "special" not all of them had the required criteria set forward in the terms and conditions (hence why it's so strange that some got it and some didn't) and that the people who did receive it knows someone that works for WA?

Now I know the guilty parties (if any) won't step forward and say "yes, I have an account because a friend of mine works there", but I would be interested to know if this rumor is true, and/or how WA did the "lucky draw" for this special because AFAIK it was supposed to be the first 100 qualifying for the special, not some random list?

select top 100 * from people_who_entered order by date_added desc <-- then work through the list of 100 folks? Or is this true? If so, it's shocking and appalling!

Was it possibly from one of the users who didn't get it because they'd only posted 21posts in 4 years and were horribly upset?
 
I met the criteria and joined early the morning. Didn't get one but people after me got account left right and center. SO maybe maybe not. I don't care anyways. I managed well before this special and will manage well after it too.
 
desc? That will give you the most recent 100 won't it?

There was someone saying they got an account an only applied quite late so I doubt he would have said that if his buddy worked at WA...

From someone that has an account. I'm not sure but has all 100 "winners" been identified yet? Because last time I only saw a list of about 37 people acknowledging they have an account like that and I haven't seen a press release from WA saying "congratulations" to these 100 folks and then naming them?

Would just like to find clarity and inner peace I guess...

I always get confused with that, not desc. And that's exactly what I mean. The terms and conditions set out by this "special" wasn't even followed by Web Africa themselves, this just leads me to believe that the rumor is true!
 
Who is this person who is spreading this rumour?

Did they meet the requirements? if so then what are they complaining about?

Yea, like I said, a few got the account and others that met the criteria and was in early didn't. Didn't specifically say "you" etc. Some.

Like I've mentioned, yes they did get an account and barely made the criteria (entered at 11:42am, well past any of the first 100 in my opinion and theirs). I'd rather not say who is "spreading" this rumor. (More of a case of "neener neener look what I got" type thing). But I'm trying to suss if it's true or not or at the very least get official acknowledgement from WA to WHO the 100 were (officially, not just posts on the forum) and HOW they were chosen seeing as though it obviously wasn't the first 100 as advertised.
 
Whatever happened... at the end of the day it is WA's bandwidth to do with as they please. It was not a competition... it was a giveaway according to their own criteria and rules. Therefore THEY DECIDE WHO GETS IT. Case closed. My advice is... stop the whining in case they decide to do another giveaway and you disqualify yourself for all time by being sour about it.

Besides by August of this year (6 months)... all of this is going to be a moot point anyway... as bandwidth will be so dirt cheap that it will not matter.

And ask yourself this... Five minutes after death... is this one of the things about my life that I will be worrying about?
 
I think WA have explained what happened quite satisfactorily if you ask me in that other thread.

If someone is spreading this type of rumour.. they should be exposed and have the account removed from them because they don't appreciate a good thing when they've got one.

I think it would be nice if WA came forward and said, "Here are the famous 100!" Im not sour or stingy about not getting an account. I do believe though WA didnt give acct's to the first 100. I reckon they randomly chose 20 users who fit their requirements.
