Hi WebAfrica,

I have been searching high and low, to figure out what your FUP actually means.

You mention that we will be throttled if we negatively impact your network I fully agree with this, as i would not like to be affected if someone else is hogging the network.

My question to you now:

  1. How much GB's per day is deemed negatively impacting the network
  2. If not GB's per day, then how much GB's per hour.
  3. If not GB's per hour, then how much GB's per week.

An answer like "it is complicated" is not acceptable. It is my right as a consumer to know what i am paying for. You cannot charge me a set rate, without disclosing what i am getting.

You work based on a star rating, somewhere some coder had to write code that lower's your star rating, so do not tell me that you do not know either. There must also be a history of user's being throttled, so you can draw an avg off that.

I think it is completely unacceptable that you do not disclose at which point we will be penalized. If I at least had an idea or an avg, then i could manage my usage, but right now it is up in the air, does not matter what i do, there is always a chance of being penalized.

A fair usage policy is not "Fair" if the end user does not know what "fair" means.

I would like a response with an avg of GB's per day. Work it out, and play open cards. Even if there is a rolling window, then give us the GB's per window.

You have no excuse, and no right, to tell us be fair, without telling us what fair is.

Please respond, or this will also be taken further, i am sure ASA can do something about your FUP as well.

The star rating doesn't work on usage in terms of GB/hour/day/week/month but on usage patterns, type of usage, ie. torrents during the day will decrease your point score (lower star rating). Where the content is coming from and how much the network is under strain at any given time. Rather think of it as a point system

That does not give me ANY indication of when i will be impacting their network negatively.

if it is to do with network strain, then give us an avg over the last 5 months, that way we can still mange it.

... by the way... i do not make use of ANY p2p or FileSharing systems. used 56.2gb in 20 days with a 4 uncapped, and i was on a 2 star rating.

not about how much you use, it's about when you use it.

GB usage has nothing to do with it, it is about how the service is used.

You could do 20GB of Windows updates and not drop a star and 5GB of News or torrent and drop 2 stars.

Also the system is developed by Internet Solutions and not WebAfrica - they are simply resellers of the system.

As i mentioned, I do not torrent...... i use about 1 gb during day time (Netflix), around 2 gb at night time (netflix) and the rest is steam (between 1am and 6am)

I though i was being extremely cautious with my usage, but apparently i was not. They cannot tell me why i am @ 2 starts. How must i know when i am "abusing" when they can't tell me when i am abusing?

Post screenshots of your usage portal please.

not about how much you use, it's about when you use it.

then it would be nice if they can tell us when is a good time.
They used to say schedule after hours, but that seems to be impacting negatively as well.

The problem here is no-one really knows how it works, and they are not prepared to give us an indication of what they mean by "Fair", and for me that is not being fair to the client.

Midnight to 6am will not lower your rating, if it did in your case provide proof and WA will get roasted.

Can you see total usage is 56.3GB, date is 19 may 2015, rating is 2 stars?

I can take a screenshot now, but it is 2 days later, now 3 stars, same usage

Doesn't matter, take the screenshot.

Netflix or VPN service will get the same rating as a torrent. A VPN may even get you a worse rating

Easy to see why you dropped stars. While you averaged a low usage, you used a lot in the days leading up to the 19th.

50GB was used mostly in the 9 or 10 days consecutively. That is 2,5 GB per day on a 4Mbps line. Surely that cannot be considered excessive?

Last I heard from the TI thread was that on a 2 Mbps line 100GB is the FUP limit and 200 GB on a 4 Mbps line. That is about 6.5 GB per day. Can WA really be almost 3 times less?

Here's my usage if it helps.

Some points
4meg line
WA Home Uncapped
2 users spread over 2 workstations, 2 mobile phones, 1 laptop, 1 xbox360
torrents is scheduled for 00:00 to 06:00
no netflix but i'd say about 30 to 60mins of youtube daily (rough guess)

I can't see how you can say that.

What is a lot? if you can tell me that, then i would be happy, but WA does not say what a lot is.

besides that.... the peaks you see there is steam downloading between 1am and 6am (which is not suppose to affect my stars)
