WA Newsserver

I agree, but it's not difficult to do things manually. People just tend to be lazy
I'm talking about fundamental design flaws. Have you ever tried downloading a single 150MB file through Grabit (especially an uncached item if you use local servers)? It's just not feasible.

The reason being that Grabit uses one connection per file. Programs like Alt.Binz and Newsleecher use one connection per article, meaning that all your connections can be used for a single file. This is useful if you're downloading lots of large files, and you don't want things to crawl towards the end.

the new grabit automatically opens a new batch when a nzb file is downloaded, then unrar's it when done downloading .i couldnt get altbinz to do that.
I'm not sure about Alt.Binz, but Newsleecher does it flawlessly, and has been doing so for years.

From my experience, it doesn't matter what you use when downloading an uncached item on local news servers. It will always crawl. I've never had speed problems with grabit, especially with international paid news servers

Weird how this thread turned out to be fairly popular considering its a simple tech query.

The WA NS is usually fairly decent on cached and uncached. SAIX/IS crawls at near death speeds on uncached though.

still struggling. i am fakin impatient here.
will appreciate print screens.tried using SABnzbd, filled in the server and port. test server and gives errors
sign..........

I'll have a blog post up for SABnzbd tomorrow first thing! Will be working on copy a bit later today, with screenshots :)

I cant seem to find the new stuff Jeff was to post ... for SABnzbd?

Had to push it back a bit, another blog took priority today :(
Sorry peeps.

Got nothing planned tonight though, and I have all the screenshots available for the walkthrough. I'll pop it up tonight and pop the link up here as soon as I hit publish :) Then I really need to sleep.

OK guys, copy is all sorted and the screenshots are all saved. I'll have a read over it tomorrow and see if it all makes sense and publish it first thing tomorrow :)
Jeff out.

Woohoo!! Digging the bold, italics HUGE font ;)
Onto the "free downloads", not too sure where you're seeing this? Are you not maybe looking at the FreeZone graph?

Just to let everyone know, I mentioned it in the previous blog, the news server is unfortunately not included into FreeZone usage.

Is it preferred to use news servers over torrents and why?

2 reasons why

1st running torrent will use more cap then using news server to download the same file.

2nd running a torrent will make your gaming spike now and then, where news download wont have much effect on gaming.

That is why i use it :)

mainly the 2nd reason though :P
