WA speeds are diabolical (see other posts). is it true that users in Joburg will never get good speeds with them because WA's only server is in Cape Town and data has to move between JBG and CT. i've been told to change to an ISP with servers in and around Joburg. does that make sense?

Iam in JHB and never had a problem with download speeds i normaly get around 590kB/s on web africas news servers, My line is synced at 6megs.

Gaming of late well thats a different story but hopefully they will sort that out

In fact i think on my Telkom account i have only ever seen it go up to 480kB/s

They do not have any peering in JHB so yes, if you are in JHB and connect to a server in JHB traffic goes via Cape Town. Not too much of an issue for general use but noticeable when I VPN to work servers and very noticeable with FPS games.

First asked WA about this last year and they said “it will change in the future”, it’s a year later and nothing so would not hold my breath.

hmm it's the pits when downloading begins at 3-4mps and climbs sloooowly to 29mps IF you're lucky. ping's about 105!!! we're not on contract with WA so i'll give the Telkom free trail a go and look around for another ISP - provided i don't have to sign a contract. tks for the input everyone - bottom line is some of you are getting decent speeds so it's nothing to do with the distance to CT.
