Celemasiko, look we know you pay.
Indeed he does, as do I. We're discussing a service that we are trying to use - ie BT in conjunction with UUNets ADSL offering and the decline of the service. Karnaugh's opinions, disregarding the libelous accusations he made towards those who have used torrents, are not based on his own experience if his posting here is indeed correct.

guys i agree with cele here

just because uunet cannot handle uncapped adsl because of illegal stuff being downloaded is there problem what did they think ppl would do with uncapped adsl?
suft 24/7 or download a million emails, get real uncapped means pirating and we should not say that its because if pirates that their service is slow.

then dont offer uncapped adsl. it doesnt take alot of intelligence to realise that uncapped will be used for illegal downloads.

if you pay a set amount for bandwidth you should be able to use in whatever way they want to.

i agree, if you have paid for uncapped ADSL service what you download or how you use the bandwidth is your choice.

Sorry killadoob, can't agree with you there. It is not a problem for me to get my fill with LEGAL downloads. There is a lot of stuff out there which is quite legal and reasonably large to download. Linux ISO's for a start can get quite chunky, so too other open source software packages.

Who decided that large downloads = illegal? This is not so in my experiance, and since I got my grubby little mits on ADSL I have had absolutely no inclination to sucking up illegal stuff. Of course I can only speak for myself :D

I think we need to stop making the assumption that anything downloaded via bit torrent is de facto illegal - its simply not true.

Thanks Bwana for the understanding.

Yes I accept anybody's experience, but his statements were unfounded and his accusations levelled against members of this forum are uncalled for.
I am since 1982 (until I finished my IT studies) in a learning process, otherwise one cannot survive in this fast growing business. And I am still eager to learn.

I am just defending my right of an unlimited access to the Internet, which has to include everything. (Like I said I can live with a certain shaping...)

If my defence are sometimes a bit too harsh I would like to apologize to the concerned persons, but on the other side I expect more sophisticated statements, then just accusations.

Bittorrent

I must say i was a bit dissapointed at first that bittorrent is blocked as i use it to download large files for business apps and like the idea of sharing with others. I used to give at min. 10KB/s up. Don't know what i am going to do about some iso's which are only available via bittorrent though.

On the other hand http and ftp is lightining fast now on UUNET and i hope it stays that way. Plesant suprise.

right on and if some ppl claim not to have pirated anything in their life then they are lying.

karnaugh you never downloaded any porn any games any mp3s? hard to believe i would say.

its easy to blame users for uunet's poor network and bad thinking.

UUNET: well we didnt think ppl would use so much bandwidth with uncapped adsl we thought we would be alright. didnt really look into it we jus offered uncapped and hoped ppl would surf and download email, the ppl who put this package together told us no one would use p2p or bitt to download so we thought lets offer uncapped.

Now that we know they all use these programs 24/7 to download we are blaming our users and calling them pirates and telling them they are messing our network up.

we also didnt think so many people would go for uncapped adsl, but this is still not our fault its the ppl who pirate

I'm sorry. Are you from UUNet? I'm very confused by the contradiction. Who is "we" here? UUNet have already defended their stance on IOZ - who's side are you on?

I think its pretty well known that Killadoob is a subscriber and supporter of Allyoucaneat. Something btw I am almost ;) envious of by now!

IOZ is an acronym I am unfamilar with. It would however be nice if UUNet could defend their stance here in this forum.

NB - Killadoob - I said almost so dont get carried away capisce! :)

Well, I’m starting to consider a shift over to one of the 30gb saix offerings - fortunately AYCE is no longer the least expensive one as I have a moral objection to them. Still, I do not begrudge you your satisfaction with their offering

p2p

What stance ? p2p mp3 videos all that is illegal anyway, correct me if i am wrong. I am glad we are getting some decent bandwidth for a change.

Really? I only saw 4 replies on the "Bittorrent is evil" subject. None from UUnet. I think the MyADSL and IOZ are quite different audiences. And probably a good idea if it stayed that way. ;)

bwana they are i think its 580 for 30 gigs i think

axxess are 599 not much diff but still cheaper

but those amounts might be badly wrong i stand to be corrected :)

Nope, you correct Killadoob :).

As killadood correctly stated, the Axis and AYCE offerings are looking leaps and bounds ahead of UUNET atm.

UUNET better respond fast or they're going to say good bye to a large amount of users imo.

saix is out to get uunet me thinks by offering cheaper saix bandwidth

i do feel sorry for them because they are trying to compete against a giant (saix)

I'm going to monitor my stats for a week and if my projected monthly traffic is below 30gb then I'm moving over. Brand loyalty only stretches so far.

If you guys want to download unlimited illegal *insert name here* 24/7 with 100% speed of the line, get diginet.

Trust me, you will have 0 problems, pay your wallet empty, yet be happy. End of story.
