I work for Web Africa and handle a large amount of the ADSL queries on our side, we have a relatively close relationship with UUNet.

Nice sentiment but realistically if they've managed to block torrents then they'll never unblock them. Why would they?warichard said:Hopefully UUNet will be able to improve the network so that both BitTorrent and other protocols can coexist happily together. For now though, this had to be done.

Unfortunately it means that BitTorrent traffic at the moment is almost nonexistant. I understand this may be frustrating for some of you, but BitTorrent was eating up a considerable chunk (maybe 50% or so) of the bandwidth which was having a negative effect on the ability for business users to use the service. Does this mean that BitTorrent does not have legitimate business use? No, it doesn't, but realistically the majority of business does not use BitTorrent, and because of the BitTorrent traffic was finding it exceedingly difficult to use the ADSL for even the most simple of internet tasks.
Hopefully UUNet will be able to improve the network so that both BitTorrent and other protocols can coexist happily together. For now though, this had to be done.

If you dont like a service as it is, it is as easy as canceling the account as you previously did. No one going to stop you in doing that. Shaping is part of SA internet, and will stay that way for some time to come. Just live with it or move out of SA.Getting told what I can or can't do with a connection I paid for is not what I really want. If tomorrow I decide to VPN and/or do whatever on a port that nobody would think of using, why should I be negatively impacted for that?

how u gonna get to 60 gigs now?

As I said before, my work and my life IS the internet, and I make a decent living off of it. Yet, I am forced to pay for sub-par service and technology?

Its very stupid, and hopefully ICASA would have a thing or two to say about this. I'm patiently waiting.
Well with that sort of attitude why should anything change? Telkom - dont like their prices? Just live with it or move out of SA. Bad service at a restaurant? Just live with it or move out of SA. Corruption in governmnet? Just live with it or move out of SA. Are you in customer services by chance? Still, glad your games are playing faster - otherwise you might Just live with it or move out of SA.Tinuva said:Just live with it or move out of SA.

Bittorrent is the "new age" of getting things. I'm old school. If I can't get it via HTTP, I don't bother. I don't even have a torrent client installed on my PC, and I pulled at least 90 gig when iBurst was uncapped.
