WACS update

pathetic, simple as that. They are blowing smoke up our butts, simple as that, they are liars. Bad weather to set back 2/5 months, bull.

Another typical trash comment without knowing what's involved in landing such a cable.

I think they initially intended to use Melkbosstrand, but for redundancy change to a new to-be-built station at Yzerfontein.
Looks like they only decided to change recently - hence the delay.

Yes, it requires a bit of work to build a landing station, but the landing station should have been build at the same time as the undersea cable was being laid - the project was started in 2009.

What heavy rains? It's been a rather dry winter.

I second that..

They certainly can not take the rain as excuse, it has been very dry. Even Cape Town City is complaining that the dams are only 70% full due to the lack of rain.

You can just count on Telkom to f*#k up as usual and lie about it... Just admit your poor planning, lier!

Can't understand why the Yzerfontein station and "last mile" to ZA networks was not built in parallel with the undersea cable.

Seems like this Telkom's lack of planning that's at fault.

That would be rational common sense. Anathema to Telkom.

So once this goes lives, I wonder how much (if any) of an impact it will have. Besides possibly widening the gap between local and international connectivity pricing.

Again, well done Telkom for doing such a stellar job....

Uhm, why keep the rest for later?!

Why run something full capacity and make a loss from the start, instead of lighting up as need is increased? It's a waste and It's done by everyone.

Is it just me or is MyBB dumbing down???

I expect by the time WACS lands, over 90% of the cost of ADSL will be directly due to Telkom's continued fixed line monopoly. On the other hand, mobile prices continue to plummet at a rapid pace. Soon ADSL will only make sense to the die-hard bulk downloaders. Everyone else will see ADSL for what it is, a complete rip-off. At some point the biblical Tower of Telkom will crumble.
