A waitress says she was fired for telling a Muslim man to remove his fez before going into a non-halaal establishment.

Polly Parolus, 46, said all she was trying to do was teach the young man and his friends respect for the Islamic holy month of Ramadaan, and now she’s jobless.

No Polly,...crap happens, when people do not mind their own business and try to be self righteous...the world would be such a better place, if we all learn just to mind our own business. Whether the boy is observing his believes or not, should not be a business's concern.... All that should be seen ,is a paying customer.

Can someone please explain the significance of her actions? What is a fez, and why would it be respectful to remove it before walking into a non-halaal establishment during Ramadan?

Yes she should have minded her own business. It wasn't her place to advise him to remove his fez. Based on her account of events, he made the incident into something more than what it was.

So would you give business to Penny Sparrow if she paid like any other customer?

non of her business!

let people do what they want, unless it affects you, then they should ask permission

Truth is most people who have been in customer service for a longtime are really friendly and chatty. I think that this youngster probably took what she said the wrong way.

@nabeel_26 tweeted: “Being denied entry into @Franky’sDinerSP for wearing a salaah top and fez and still being asked to remove it by the waitress.”

yeah, he said she said,

he seemed to have blown it out of proportion and she seems to have overstepped her boundaries.

This could have been an issue that they settled while he was there. Upset with a waitress, talk to her. Dissatisfied with her response then speak to the manager. Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, it could have been sorted out. The first instinct these days is to get the full might of facebook/twitter behind you over some perceived offense.

Gives a whole new meaning to blowing your top off:D

+1. It's hard to imagine this waitress would have kept up her fussiness if the guy just explained to her. Why run to Facebook with every little thing?

Why should the guy even explain anything to her?

A simple "Mind your own business" was all that was necessary.
