Walking Pad

Many thanks for the feedback! Can you please comment on reliability, any issues so far and how long have you had the machine for?

Thanks again for the reply.
Seven months, used 3-4 times a week for 1-2 hours each time.

Zero issues

Working out and getting steps in the home works with my lifestyle and preferences better than doing all of this outside.

I work from home. Thought this walking pad would be a good option but if no one has used it or has any experience with it then its going to be a very risky purchase
A raised desk and a walking pad work nicely together. Think about that investment possibility as well.

Doesn't want to be patronised, proceeds to patronise.

Anyway you may think it's trolling or whatever but it's actually constructive advice. I have a bunch of equipment collecting dust because it's hard to keep the motivation going. It's money wasted.

For jogging and cycling specifically, the changes of scenery outdoors helps. Use it, don't use it. Buy the thing, or buy a treadmill, then come back in 2 years and tell us how it's going...
Not everyone is the same though, I rode my bike until it fell apart. Plus since he is WFH, he could incorporate the treadmill into that, then he has more time in the day to himself before or after work.

Hi guys

I'm thinking of buying a walking pad/jogging pad as I just don't have the physical space for a full blown treadmill. I looked at this option :

I can walk and I can jog on this and it takes up very little space. It can also fold almost flat. I wanted to know if there are any members here who have bought this specific option : It's called the Walking Pad R1 Pro. It's a lot more expensive compared to the Takealot jobbies I see all over the place. Figure I should spend more for something decent.

Price is around R16000.

Anyone have experience with these walking pads?
You know what, I also did not know these were a thing but looking at it, reckon this could do a proper job at our place.
Wife often has these hours long virtual meetings where she's just sitting in a study, something like this could come in very handy.
I mean I do the whole running outside thing but during the days where maybe the weather doesn't play ball or you just don't want to be sitting in front of your laptop the whole day reckon this could work.

Gonna look into this; not the R16k ones but something in the same vein.

So no advice to give just yet.

The big appeal for me is the space saving factor. It takes up such little space and can be positioned under a bed. Also it's not super heavy.

I must admit, for me R16K is a lot for something like this when Takealot has sub R5000 units available that have similiar specs. Warranty on the cheaper units are 6 months, and on the R16K unit 1 year. Not a big difference.

I guess the difference is you are paying for an established brand vs not. Whether that's worth the money is the kicker. I'm still trying to make that determination.

We had one of these before we splurged on a proper treadmill. If you're a runner, get a treadmill. This is going to become redundant quickly.

I ended up getting the A1 Pro via Takealot. The Kingsmith website gives you a good idea of the specs and features. Was easy enough to set up and I tested it out for around 50 minutes with some stops and starts and changes in speed. Got up to walking 4km/h which was comfortable.

I've never really used treadmills before so had to figure out how to walk at a natural pace. This should work well for exercising at home. I wasn't planning to use it while working but think it could be a bit loud for that, maybe okay with a noise-cancelling headset and mic though.

The (few) reviews seem overwhelmingly positive.

I assume you will be using this all year round? No it is "too cold to use" story in Winter?
I'm a swimmer so this is for those winter days when it feels too cold to swim (even at gym!). It's also a 2 hour round trip to gym to do a 1 hour swim plus shower etc and I bail on it, so this is to limit the excuses and get moving at home. Also traffic is painful during the week so may end up swimming at weekends and using this during the week.

Go to a park that charges a fee. If you are in JHB, Walter Sisulu is really safe and you can walk as much as you want. R100 a visit.

I considered a walking pad also but as many others mentioned, if you have excuses why you can't walk around your area/mall then you actually won't use the thing and it'll be a waste of R16k. Build the habit and then buy the tools.
He indicated that he wants something in privacy of home.

As for me, I am in JHB and Walter Sisulu is about 47kms from our place so just imagine the cost of fuel, apart from R100 entrance fee. It is not practical unless you are within walking distance of any such garden.

If you’re 47kms away from Walter Sisulu you aren’t in JHB :D

But fair enough

Give us a 1-2 month review. Keen to hear your thoughts after a full month

Will do, the accountability here will help . I think @AlmightyBender has the same or similar model and has been using it for a while now.
That is correct. Use it all the time. No ragrets.

Had a 2 hour workshop that could have been an email yesterday and got in 5000 steps.

It like getting jacked in prison vibes which is a good thing. That is my long term review.

My walking pad feels a bit too noisy to use in a meeting where I'd have to engage but I also don't have a standing desk so not an option currently. For larger meetings where I don't really have to participate then it might work. Tried watching series yesterday while walking and kept checking I was still walking straight  Getting the hang of this treadmill thing.
