Can somebody please explain this.
I have a 384 connection with a Dlinbk router connectd through Afrihost. While browsing I start a download via http, when that download is finished the whole machine effectively disconnects itself from the internet and nothing will connect at all. No sites will connect, rebooting the router doesnt help, neither does anything else, and the only way I can get it all to work is do a physical restart of computer and router.
On other days most sites will work properly, with the exception of 1 or 2, they will take inordinately long times to connect, any mail I want to send will not be sent as the server will time out, and any ftp I am attempting to do will time out because the connection is going slower than a snail. Yet, some sites are working perfectly.

This is not a consistent problem, yesterday everything went well up till the afternoon, then it was downhill all the way. THis morning ftp doesnt work and sending mail probably doesnt either.

Any advice on what to do? I am at wits end with this thing.

Are you sure you not capped? Your able to access some local sites but majority wont be working due to no international bandwidth? If your sure your not capped, then perhaps its something to do with your line or exchange. Im experiencing no issues with my afrihost account at this time or yesterday.

I had the same problem last night, local sites were loading fast. But International sites was nearly dead slow. I mailed Afrihost and they said that there is nothing wrong on their side. I see you are also with Afrihost, mmmmmhhhhhh I wonder.

Here is Afrihost support email : [email protected]

I also wondered about it being a capped issue, but I have heaps of bandwidth left and as soon as I shut down and restart I can download once again. Its really bugging me as I also asked afrihost if there was a problem and they said I should speak to telkom.
My best check as to whether things are working properly are if bidorbuy doesnt load or myanimelist, if they dont load then there is a problem.

...same problem with intermittent slow intl. access speed on afrihost in cape town, thought it was telkom line, had port changed in exchange, however issue persists!

I tried a few things while I couldnt connect and if I try ping anything the computer says that it cannot resolve the host name. Had to restart twice this evening already. Sigh.
I never had this with MyWi!
