[wanted] AMD Socket A / 462 CPU

overclocking and system build

Hi Guys These Are My Specs Please Give Me Some Advice:

Amd Sempron 2600+ (1.4ghz)
768mb Ddr 400 Ram
160g Maxtor
128 Mb Ddr Geforce Fx5200

I Wanna Know How I Can Overclock My Pc, Coz I Can't Even Run Fifa 2006 Full Blast And That Sucks, Please Help Me Out!!!

In my experience, it's not worth trying to O/C components unless u know for a fact that the h/w has that capacity. Otherwise u just end up with a whole lot of grief (i.e. unstable pc).

And the degree of improvement is not always that great, especially if ur system is getting a bit long in the tooth and ur trying to play the latest games :D

If O/Cing is your objective, you need to build the system so that everything is geared towards it. Components designed for O/Cing tend to be more expensive, though many graphics card manufacturers fully endorse O/Cing of their cards these days. [Edit: Overclockable cards are not necessarily more expensive!]

Just my 2 cents worth so don't take what I've said as gospel.

Looking at ur rig as it stands, the first thing u gotta do is replace that 5200 with something decent. But don't go overboard because then the rest of the rig will lag behind... [Edit: Someone suggested a 6600GT? That sounds reasonable for ur rig]

If u have the bucks, then a completely new rig [Edit: PCI-express platform] would be an idea, but then u probably looking at 8k plus for nice rig that runs some of the latest games at a respectable level.

10k easy if u looking for a hectic gaming rig.

Thanks For The Advice

Yep I Will Do My Best With Regards To This, I Also Actually Think That A New Board, chip And Card Will Do Me Good, But I Was Just Thinking Of Short Term Overclocking, How Exactly Is It Done, Do I Just Changed The Frequency Gradually On The Cmos Or What????

David, your processor shouldn't be running at 1,4GHz in the first place,

The Sempron 2200+ was running at 1,5Ghz (like a Athlon XP 1700+). So yours should really be running at 1,66 ir something like that.

processor!!!

now that is something i dont understand bru, i have the box and everything and it says AMD Sempron 2600+ bought it in 2004, so its one of the first ones

I've Actually Managed To Overclock My Pc To 1,7 Ghz, The System Remained Stable Saw A Slight Increase In Performance On My Games

So Instead Of 15 Frames Per Second You Now Have 18 Frames Per Second :D

How Is The Caps Lock Thing Working Out For You?

Just be careful with the overclocking. If u overdo it, ur machine may not boot up at all and then u will have to reset ur BIOS...

What games r u playing and what frame rates are u getting?

If By Chance It Doesnt Boot How Exactly Do You Reset Your Bios Coz, I Tried To Clock It To 1,8 Last Nite And It Didnt Want To Boot Afterward, Then After A Couple Of Restarts I Managed To Get The Bios Up And Running To Lower The Speed To 1,7ghz

Your mobo manual will tell u how to reset the BIOS.

It usually involves a jumper setting or failing that, removing the BIOS battery for a few seconds.

I guess if u really have a problem u ain't gonna be able to view this thread for a while ;)

[Edit]
FYI, do you realise that you keep double posting and that there's some forum rule about how that's not allowed (i think). Just a friendly warning :)
