I've always wanted to buy one with all the goodies, where can I go and buy one?

Anywhere in Cape Town Central or Somerset West?

There's a shop above the Purple Turtle. C/o Long & Shortmarket.

Most chain store liquor shops cell, as do most sweet shops.

Lol soz, read that as "wanting to get a hubby" :p

was wondering for a sec.

When you buy it, be sure to get a flavour called 'Blue Mix'. Best flavour I have tried.

In Vangste mall is shop ran by some Egyptian guys who sells all kinds of different ones with different heads and flavours.

They say ... who those "they" are, I don't know.

Anyway, they say that a hubbly is for worse than any cigarette, cigarillo or cigar could ever be.

If you smoke it by yourself and continually smoke it it can be worse. You are inhaling a lot of smoke/vapour. Then again its not as carcinogenic as cigarettes.

However if you bring it out once a week to share with friends then its harmless

Uhm, I wouldn't use the word "harmless".

I also thought it was "wanting to get a hubby". Just in case, I have this unmarried 63 year old friend who is looking for a wife. He lives in Sea Point, so was thinking of a Jewish widow, about R20k a month spending money and a new car every 2 years or so. He can play bridge

The other requirements can be negotiated...

You could just Google instead of using hearsay...

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a hubbly bubbly?
A: A hubbly bubbly – also called a hub, hookah, water pipe, narghile, shisha or goza – is an instrument for smoking tobacco, which is often flavoured. It consists of a base container, usually made of glass, attached to one or many smoking tubes. The tobacco smoke is cooled by passing it through water in the container prior to inhaling it.

Q: Isn’t water pipe smoke less hazardous than cigarette smoke because it passes through water?
A:* No, the water doesn’t clean the smoke. Water pipe and cigarette smoke both contain poisons including nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, arsenic and lead, among many others. Arsenic is used as a rat poison, and carbon monoxide is a deadly gas also found in motor car exhaust. Lead is a neurotoxin, meaning it can damage the nervous system.

Q: Don’t you get less nicotine from a water pipe than a cigarette?
A: The water does absorb some of the nicotine, but water pipe smokers can nonetheless be exposed to sufficient amounts to cause addiction. A water pipe smoker can take between 50 and 200 puffs in a single session (which could take 20 and 80 minutes) while a cigarette smoker takes about 10 puffs a cigarette. In other words, there is the potential for a water pipe smoker to take in as much nicotine by smoking one water pipe as you can by smoking 10 cigarettes. The ‘tar’ in tobacco smoke also causes cancer. The smoke produced in a typical water pipe smoking session can contain about 36 times more tar and about eight times more carbon monoxide, than the smoke from a single cigarette.

Q: Is smoking of water pipes addictive?
A: The water pipe can be just as addictive than a cigarette, because users are exposed to addictive quantities nicotine. Some water pipe smokers show the signs of addiction, that is, they crave a smoke, and they struggle to quit the habit and experience withdrawal symptoms when not doing so.

Q: Why are water pipes so appealing to young people?
A: The sweet flavour and pleasant smell makes it easier to inhale the smoke without coughing. Also, smoking water pipe is a social and satisfyingly ritualistic activity for many, further encouraged by the prevailing myth that it’s harmless and doesn’t involve ‘proper drugs’.

Q: What are the long-term health effects of water pipe smoking?
A: Scientists are just starting to investigate all the negative impacts associated with the water pipe, but given its similarity to cigarette smoke, it is likely that many tobacco-related diseases will be linked to water pipe use. This includes damaging the lungs, making it painful or difficult to breathe. It may lead to cancer of the mouth, lungs and bladder, and even cause heart disease. Sharing a water pipe also means you can get germs from other people: the bacteria that cause tuberculosis, as well as the virus that causes herpes, can be passed on to you by sharing a water pipe.

Q: Even if I don’t do it myself, is it bad to be in a room where people are smoking a water pipe?
A: Yes; breathing the air in a room where people are smoking a water pipe exposes non-smokers to many deadly chemicals. Children whose parents smoke water pipes are more likely to have lung infections than children whose parents do not smoke water pipes.

Q: If a pregnant woman smokes a water pipe can she harm her baby?
A: Yes. The carbon monoxide and other poisons will pass from the mother’s blood to the unborn baby and can stunt the growth of the foetus.

Q: Is there a safe level of smoking a water pipe?
A: There is no safe level of tobacco use, in whatever form that can be considered safe. The more the use, the greater the health risks.

Though it's not really fair to compare it to one cigarette as smokers typically smoke more than one per day (anecdotal).

Since no one asked us...

Is this the "Picard bashing" evening tonight?

Maybe I should leave and return to this forum tomorrow.

Yeah Silver Fox is awesome too, it's kinda like double apple...

Never had coconut will try it.

Pan Ras is also awesome.

Never had apple :(
Will give Blue Mix a try again and Coconut. Just have to find my hubbly.

For all the health warnings, these people don't know what they're talking about and conduct all their tests by burning the tobacco... If you're smoking hubbly right then the tobacco never burns, all you do is vapourise the flavoured glycerine. Hence you can buy STONES that you soak in glycerine and use instead of tobacco and tastes and smokes absolutely identically, is actually easier to pack because you don't have to worry about burning the tobacco which gives off a crap taste.

Is it healthy? No of course not but it's hardly the disaster people make it out to be saying you're smoking 20 cigarettes at once, you're simply not...

Is it addictive? Maybe mildly so, but I've been smoking hubbly for 7 years and haven't had any for over a month with no effects whatsoever. In fact a lot of my friends smoke hubbly daily and I've never heard them complaining that they NEED a hubbly.

Simply advice for the OP, Al Fakher is the most expensive and best flavour you can get in SA easily so start with that before testing other flavours. When packing put the tobacco in the bowl, fluff it up and then push it back down a bit so none of the tobacco touches the foil over the top. Make sure you put the foil tight over the top, again to stop the tobacco touching as this causes the tobacco to burn and give of a sharp acrid taste, then put a lot of small holes in the foil rather than a few large ones as this prevents ash dropping down from the coal and distributes the heat better.

The main advice is that the coal is NEVER supposed to heat the tobacco directly, it should only heat the air as it passes the coal. This hot air is then drawn past the glycerine and vapourises it.

Oh and the large the vase(where the water is), the more the smoke mixes with air and the smoother the smoke will be, so bigger is indeed better but I recommend getting a two pipe hubbly, any more pipes are a pain with solo smoking and get confusing in a crowd.
